Not only is it acceptable to many alums like me, I really respect those who just love the Tigahs.
Especially love ABCs. Recently met a guy that graduated from NU in Boston & moved to BTR for work. He wondered what all the LSU talk was about & decided to take his wife to a home game. They fell in love with our beloved Tigahs & had season tickets until they moved away years ago.

Likewise, grew up in SW MS & sat at the kitchen table on fall Saturday nights listening to the Tigahs on the radio was with my dad, also an LSU grad.
But for the clear-channel WWL, I would have had few chances to get to know LSU football in the 60s & 70s.

No man don't feel that way. LSU is the state school that represents not only all the people of Louisiana but also tiger fans around the world. Being an alumni doesn't make a person a better or more real of a fan. A person can be from anywhere around the world but for whatever reason they bleed purple and gold and have a tiger heart then they can be a true Tiger fan

This is my simplistic and primitive view. If someone is born and/or bred from Louisiana or has any strong Louisiana connection and is not a LSU fan they can geaux F((__3f themselves! That is all...

no, you can only be a fan if you attended the school. Thems the rules here

I know many die-hard LSU fans who did not attend LSU.

no! that's not acceptable.

Well I went to ULL and live in Lafayette. But I bleed purple and gold. I'll go to a ULL basketball or football game once in a blue moon. There's no reason one can't support both, but die hard Cajun fans hate LSU. Luckily, I'm not one of them.

Absolutely acceptable. While you did go to college elsewhere, not everybody does. I know many people who never attended a day of college, but do enjoy watching college sports. As lifelong Louisiana residents, it's natural to pull for the single major in-state school.
And for me personally, I grew up in a home where the NFL was king. Throughout the '90s, I barely remember my dad ever watching any college football other than the occasional New Year's bowl, and that was just for background noise. So naturally, I didn't grow up an LSU fan. Then in my junior year in HS (2002), I knew I was going to LSU in a couple years, and had heard the buzz of LSU coming off a conference title so I decided to watch a little, beginning with that wild Kentucky game. I was hooked instantly. Then my dad came around as he watched his boy go off to LSU. Now he's a big LSU fan despite having never attended a day of college.
Don't let anyone ever tell you that you're a fan for the wrong reasons.

Of course it’s ok. I went to college out of high school at the U of Colorado in Boulder and loved every second of it out there. Eventually my high school girlfriend and I got serious again and I came back home to go to LSU with her. I’m damn happy I have a diploma that says LSU on it but at the same time I missed Colorado. It all ended up working out in the long run though. We got married, moved to Austin, TX for a few years and just recently accepted a great job offer in Vail, CO so I ended up being able to come back in a way. Just because you don’t live in the same area or go to the school you root for doesn’t mean you aren’t a true fan. Hell I’m a Louisiana boy born and raised but I’ve been a diehard LA Dodger baseball fan my entire life.

Responding to your 'Wish it were still USL' comment, one of my good friends is also a huge LSU and ULL fan. He made a good argument recently that ULL should change back to USL (for University of South Louisiana) and that ULM should change to UNL (University of North Louisiana).
There is a lot of pride in Louisiana for the North and South regions. LSU fans would like it, I think (?) most of the ULL fans would like it. Looking back, I'm not sure why that wasn't proposed when the schools changed names 15 years ago (or whenever).

Gotta be an LSU fan. It's ok to be a ULM fan too if you want.
I don't think you HAVE to be an LSU fan. I'm a McNeese grad. I don't have to be an LSU fan, but I am because I grew up one. But I do support my alma mater before LSU.
That's how it should be. You received a degree from that school. Why would you support another school before your own?

Same here. Grew up in BR. Went to a different school. Follow all LSU sports.

I got accepted again after getting out of the military but decided to stay in the Austin area and go to Texas State, I face the same dillema. Maybe I'll get my graduate degree from there one day, I woud love to have a diploma with LSU on it like the rest of my family.

If you’re from Louisiana you’re either an LSU fan or you’re an angry person. There aren’t any other schools that compete with us in football anymore. If you attended another school that’s fine but to hate LSU has more to do with you than it does LSU. People in Alabama can be UAB fans and Bama/Auburn fans. If you have to hate LSU to be a ULL fan then you just have some issues within yourself you gotta figure out. If you went to Tulane in the last 40 years you really don’t have a reason either.
Posted on 4/9/19 at 12:01 pm to C3W
Maybe ULM would be better if more alumni like you supported the school with attendance and money. Way too many ULM grads do nothing to help the school.

Unless it pulling for another Louisiana school as an opponent in a game it should be mandatory
