Just as an aside, people keep posting about all the "freshman" playing. It's "freshmen." A single player is called a freshman. Multiple players are referred to as freshmen. Carry on.

I feel like the redshirt is dead in the Transfer Portal era.

WIth being able to play and still red shirt it is very much alive. For kids who see the writing on the wall as a Freshman that they will be making a move having a RS is huge. The blanket redshirt that a lot of freshmen used to get is essentially just because is dead.

Javien Toviano 28

Before the season, I would have expected this number to be much higher.

I don't think anyone would have guessed that Jackson McGohan would play the most of all the freshmen TE.

Has he? Some of these guys might be playing nothing but kickoff coverage.

Boy BK definitely didn't like the two drops by Shelton Sampson against Grambling. He hasn't let him play since then.

oh, Shea doesn’t like walkons apparently. They’re people too!!

Well the tweet is specifically 16 of 24 signed. Walkons don’t sign.

The drops were bad, but he also didn't block very well.

According to Lester Earl, McGohan has only played 8 snaps. I believe we’ve punted 7 times so he’s just on punt team

I get that, but the knock is not BK doesn't play freshman on special teams.

This “knock” was already incredibly stupid and still is, regardless of whether the numbers in OP include special teams.

Now that is a good evaluator of talent! Well done BK, can’t wait for more classes to come in.

I don’t see the excitement other than 5 freshmen. I’m not impressed with recruiting. Numbers are good with the exception of DL but the quality isn’t as good comparing pre 2019 on. For the most part the transfer portal has more quality than recruiting. But then again two of them, Harris and Alexander, were five stars and haven’t impressed through four games. WR was supposed to be good and deep. That hasn’t been the case JD is mostly targeting two players. The big TE offensive showing that CBK is rebound for has not been there.

It’s very misleading if that is the conclusion you reached from the chart. Number of games played does not equate to amount of playing time. He has not had more playing time. Markway and Pimpton have had much more playing time.

I hope they continue to see more. LSU is more than likely going to need these guys when in a critical spot at some point this season.

Brooks is out. Burns has a history of injuries and will likely miss some time at some point. (2021 foot injury, 2022 neck injury, Spring 2023 ankle injury).

I guess Yaites is furthest along among the freshman DBs/Safeties.

Yep. Though in his defense, none of the other WRs have gotten snaps since then either. It will be interesting to see which freshman will get playing time vs Ole Miss with Aaron Anderson dealing with a hamstring injury. Obviously Hilton and Lacy are #3 and #4 this week. But will LSU use a #5 WR or just stick to 4 and split Taylor or Diggs/Williams out wide for empty sets.
