I think he is thinking a Saban type run but at LSU.

Honestly, I think that's what Lane wants, particularly since Saban is one of his confidantes. The key will be how quickly he can achieve substantial success, e.g. winning a few games in the playoffs.

I think we keep him until an NFL job he wants opens.

Doubtful. He is who he is, always looking for the next best thing. If Bama/OSU/USC/Texas came calling, I would expect him to take those jobs. Also think he would listen to a good NFL offer.

But hey, maybe he's changed for good and he wants to put down some roots in Baton Rouge, I just don't see that as reality. Past behavior is always the best indicator of future behavior.

His father set the “wandering” tone… with well over a dozen career stops.
imo kiffin will pivot off big LSU success to the NFL. He’ll have “made it”.
He’s at his college peak right now and has the opportunity of a lifetime. The lure of the NFL will fulfill his ego and continue the coaching gypsy lifestyle he’s accustomed to…
If he takes another college job, it’s because he failed at LSU.

Texas will come calling in two years and we’ll be in Ole Miss’ position now. No doubt.

Should have been wearing an Ole Miss polo this past weekend.

The media in general was downright clownish with their sappy as hell commentary.

Probably not and that’s totally fine with me.

It’s been a long time since her coach left Lsu for another job somewhere but if you gave me the choice now between him leaving for another school or being fired, I’ll take leaving every single time

If he is successful, this is his last stop IMO except for the NFL.

I do not think he bolts if he’s successful for a job like Alabama, as many think. Yes they are a storied program, more so than LSU, but LSU is a top tier job and one where coaches go once they’ve “made it”.

I believe the talk with Saban made an impression on him and he is at the"big job" already. Saban telling him he regretted leaving LSU says a lot. And having an entire state that puts more players per capita in the NFL than just about any other is a huge part of it. He won't get that anywhere else in college football. It's what makes LSU one of the top 3 jobs in the country. If he ever leaves it's for the NFL it will be because he is successful here that they will want him.

Except he really hasn't.
If you read his comments referenced elsewhere in this thread and think about his inherent restlessness, I would argue that Kiffin's personality manifests the tumult that seems to surround him perpetually.

Perhaps he's not Joey Freshwater any longer, and it's true he was at OM for a good while, but he still seems to cultivate drama. It's feels like the girlfriend/boyfriend who can't abide stability and creates conflict where there was none, knowing that it will lead ultimately to a breakup.

The only college job that might interest him is if Alabama opens up.

He'll stay unless something personal happens.

This is a guy who wants a legacy as a great college head coach. Alabama of course will make this about themselves, but he is a better fit at LSU and time will show that to be true. Once he recruits top 3 classes and wins, there will be no appeal to leave to an Alabama to live under Saban's shadow.

He's here to be the first coach in LSU history to win multiple national titles.

I can see him go to the NFL in year three or four.

Depends on if that NFL team has a first overall pic or a young stud QB already in the building.

Kiffen is a mercenary, he will go wherever he wants, when he wants.

The number of people who must think that hiring Saban in 2000 was a massive mistake because he left after 5 years must be astounding.

This focus on will he stay or will he go is absurd.

Eventually, 5,6,7 years down the road, he takes one more crack at the NFL.

He likes to create attention. That's not going to stop at LSU. But at some point you stop running out of "bigger" jobs to jump to. In 2009 USC was a bigger job than Tennessee. Ole Miss was a bigger job than FAU. LSU is a bigger job than Ole Miss. This list of college jobs that are bigger than LSU is pretty small. Equal? Sure. But not very many that are bigger

In a perfect scenario

I think he absolutely kills it here. This is his chance to do a saban like dynasty without being in the shadow.. he will be embraced by us and vice versa.. he’ll finish what Saban started and regretted…
He wins a few nattys or gets into the playoffs year in and year out he gets the statue/ stadium name

Also I truly think Nick/ Pete really influenced him to take it

I think LSU is a job he may only leave for one or two other jobs including NFL

Ole Miss the stepping stone program lots of more jobs to leave too

Now if things don’t turn out I see him gone, but very unlikely I don’t see him mailing it in at all like BK… lane is still hungry
