Keep your eye on Carson Palmer at Rancho Santa Margarita high school. It’s his first year as a HC and he is terrific. He knows wtf he’s doing. Organized, disciplined, power… Also, his brother Jordan is one of the best QB coaches in the country…
He’s probably southern cal bound at some point. He’s a guy that strikes fear from the sideline. Massive presence and you’re not going to outwit him.
Feel free to throw empties, but I think his HC career path may look like a hockey stick.
Give him the same talent as kiffin and he’d knock kiff’s balls in.
Be thrilled that he’s gone… it’s onward and upward from here.

Adding to your details, is my thank you letter to the LSU student paper sports editor when his hire was announced. He’s an insufferable ahole. Not included in my note is his charity’s dismal performance while in SB…

“Hi Joe, I’m writing to you and LSU to say thank you very much for hiring Brian Kelly. Somewhat lost, in the fan base euphoria I’ve witnessed from LSU, are some very relevant facts. First off, kelly is not the winningest coach in Notre Dame history. Also, in order to reach Knute Rockne’s winning percentage kelly would have had to win his next 200+ games in a row. That’s not a typo.  (Plus, that’s giving him the benefit of 21 NCAA vacated wins.)  In addition, if you go to the NCAA website you can find the Public Infractions Report (PIR) where the NCAA specifically prohibits using vacated wins for coaching milestones. I’ll send you the report if you have difficulty finding it.  His win total is 21 lower.  He did not eclipse Rockne’s wins in any ethical NCAA approved capacity.…. However, 5 years ago kelly did gain the mantle of Notre Dame’s “losingest” coach in school history.  He’ll most likely carry that through eternity.  Not only was kelly pummeled by the NCAA in 2016, he’s currently on probation for recruiting violations through January 2022.
At LSU you measure success by National Championships, Heismans…..  Notre Dame does the same.  The biggest post season bowl win in kelly’s lackluster career is the Citrus? Music? Sun? Camping? (The Pinstripe was vacated and the trophy may not be displayed). It’s hardly a worthy resume’.  Under the brightest lights he wilts.
You are going to experience an underachieving, self promoting, narcissistic egomaniac the likes of which you’ve never seen.  He’ll be throwing players under the bus as soon as the road gets bumpy.  He’s a money grabbing mercenary.  The king’s ransom you’ve paid was better off given to the likes of Bernie Madoff.  There’s more, but I hope you get the gist. I’m writing this as fair warning and a sincere thank you.
Hallelujah he’s gone.
PS I didn’t know how he’d gum up his intro, but the phony accent exceeded all expectations.”
He also has claimed to be a varsity athlete. He played for a football “club” team at Assumption.
PS In fairness, he may have played women’s varsity softball in HS.
Kelly will also have to deal with Clark Lea and Mike Elko in back to back weeks…

re: Billy Donovan

imo The guy you want is HC Richard Pitino, New Mexico. You then by default capture his father’s and Donovan’s ongoing wisdom.
He understands “team”, fast break offense, full court pressure…as well as anyone.

re: Rick Pitino next LSU Coach

Factoids: Pitino was a great HS player at St. Dominic’s Oyster Bay, Long Island, NY. Occasionally dropped over 50…
His relationship with Billy Donovan is phenomenal. Billy Donovan and Bernard Woodside were HS teammates at St Agnes RVC, Long Island, NY. Woodside made the Final 4 with LSU in ‘85-‘86. Donovan made the final 4 with Pitino and Providence in ‘86-‘87. Pitino to this day credits Donovan with putting him on the map. Pitino works the playgrounds and foreign hoop market as well as anyone. He’s relentless and expects the same in return. St John’s was up 23-3 on Georgetown today. Classic Pitino…they didn’t know what hit them.
There’s been some real bad ones.
I was responding to this question:

“How much have yall struggled with non power 5 teams under Freeman?”
First 3 years at ND:
Kelly lost to Navy and Tulsa back to back year 1
He lost to South Florida to open the season at home year 2
His Navy, BYU, Pitt wins were wiped by the NCAA year 3
PS in year 12 Kelly, 2021, he squeaked out a W vs Toledo 32-29 and lost at home in week 5, ironically, to his former team Cincinnati… that was the only regular season loss

He had other losses to Navy, close calls with Ball State, Temple, his Rutgers bowl win was wiped

Freeman lost to Marshall year 1
Freeman lost to NIU year 3
“And he still hasn't done anything that Coach BK hasn't done.”

That’s simply not true…

He hasn’t faked an accent.
He hasn’t been nailed multiple times by the NCAA.
Round 1: He hasn’t had wins vacated. (I’ll not bore you with the full penalty list in the NCAA Public Infractions report.). Round 2: He hasn’t been penalized by the NCAA for recruiting violations.
He hasn’t ditched an undefeated team heading to the Sugar Bowl….
He hasn’t lost all his major post season Bowls. Kelly 0 (Kelly in 4th decade as HC, Freeman’s won 2 in 3 years as a HC)
Kelly is batting 0.000 in them for his entire career. (Had he stuck around for the Cinci Sugar Bowl he would have been walloped by FL there too.).
He hasn’t lost 8 games in a season.
He hasn’t put a kid in a scissor lift to film practice during a “dangerous wind advisory” resulting in the student’s death. (The grace of that student’s family spared massive legal trouble for him/others.)
He hasn’t had people falling asleep at the Cinci DMV during his motivational segment. (On YouTube very funny)
He hasn’t made racist remarks about his players. (See CMU).
He hasn’t claimed to have played LB in college only to be found out it was club ball. (That’s a funny wiki edit).
He hasn’t finished 3-5 in the MAC. In year 12 at ND, 2021, he did author a fabulous home opener come from behind win vs Toledo. ND was #8 and squeaked by 32-29… with 1:09 to play and ND trailing 29-24 Coan hit Mayer for an 18 yd TD taking a 30-29 lead, This sent the crowd into a goal post tear down frenzy (jk) and then ND converted the 2 pointer … riveting…
There’s more, but that’s off the top of my head…

LSU’s talent base, may overcome kelly and win a NC over time. However, his departure from ND coincided with a major change to the college football landscape.

The portal/NIL has leveled the playing field. It was 4 months young when Kelly departed. With that and the 12 team playoff, Alabama type domination may be a thing of the past and parity could be the new normal. So, what factors will set teams apart? Coaching’s a big one. To date Kelly can’t handle the post season crucible. Now it’s deeper. He’s already moved the LSU three year goalpost… the good news is that he’s feeling serious heat and will really buckle down now. I think he knows that if he misses the playoff's it will get white hot. I have a feeling that the LSU AD/hierarchy will not be as lax as ND’s…
ND had 1 5* player. Bryce Young, son of ND/NFL/HOF Bryant.
I believe GA, OSU each had 14 or 15…
We filled gaps with portal transfers…
There’s some really good football minds here. Great school, program and fan base…
PS The LSU Med school is top shelf. I’m heading to the Mater Dei, CA Nike Extravaganza tonight with a grad… Stanford to LSU…
Jordan Palmer runs among the best QB training in the country. Below is a short YouTube clip of him discussing Daniels.

2019
5-5 ASU, with FR Jayden Daniels at the helm, beat 9-1 #6 Oregon who was led by Senior QB Justin Herbert. Oregon would go on to beat Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl. ASU beat FSU in the Sun Bowl. Herbert would be drafted #6 and win NFL rookie of the year. He also won the Campbell Trophy and was MVP of the Rose Bowl. They finished #5.

Plus, he left Freeman a program still on a year of NCAA probation for recruiting violations…

Yep, after squandering a 31-7 lead, Ohio state wanted to be 3rd and 11 on their 34 leading by 8 with almost 3 minutes on the clock. Their prior 2 possessions were a fumble and punt. They made a great play on a gutsy deep shot. I guarantee they were sweating bullets which is something Kelly has yet to force an opponent to do in any major bowl crucible.
..: ND had 2 TDs, two 2 point conversions and a missed FG on the 3 previous possessions leading to OSU’s deep shot.
Over 12 years ND bent over backwards for Kelly. He left 4 months into the NIL era. He was never denied anything. Over 1/2 a billion was sunk into the program in facility upgrades. The grass field was torn out as he preferred field turf. Jumbotron, fire, smoke machines, all on his wishlist… private jets for recruiting… lots more. He in turn got caught up in multiple NCAA scandals. I’m not going to go down his list of losses…
Saying he was denied anything isn’t true. Nor is saying ND lowered its academic standards for Freeman. As pointed out Kelly bolted 4 months into the NIL frontier. It’s been a new experience for every program since. More teams are playoff bound, more teams will be competitive as talent spreads across programs, depth may be more difficult to maintain…
Everyone recognized that Freeman had no head coaching experience. I’m guessing that many HCs stumbled early in their HC careers. His learning curve looks like a hockey stick. He’s not afraid to reach out to former excellent HCs. He has established close working relationships with them (among them Dungy). His decency represents ND very well. The NIU loss was brutal and Freeman was able to get the team to respond positively to it.
Kelly had many years of HC experience when he arrived at ND. In year one he lost to Navy and at home to Tulsa back to back. In year 2 he lost the home opener to South Florida. His in game ongoing unhinged behavior during that game made national news.
Coming in 2nd is not much for ND to brag about. I’m just pointing out some relative data points as it relates to Kelly’s past ND performance.
As posted earlier, my issues with Kelly started on Day 1 and have to do with his character flaws which compounded over his 12 years.
Freeman’s personality and humility are a breath of fresh air. Past legendary players yelling across the quad, “look at the ducklings”, as Freeman acknowledges them, laughs and walks with his six kids is a far cry from Kelly not wanting those players around.
Kelly had a solid last 4 years at ND and parlayed it into landing big $ at LSU.
IMO the best postseason accomplishment under his ND/LSU watch is the recent Heisman. That’s a huge get. LSU will get it right with him and I believe the leash is getting shorter.
In ‘12 and ‘18, Kelly finished #4 and #5 in the Final AP. Freeman just finished #2.

Kelly has access to a ton of talent. NIL was in a 4 month infancy when he left ND. That and the portal are still very “young”. It’s looking more and more like parity will be the new norm. My guess is that as time goes by more 2nd and 3rd string talent will seek playing time elsewhere, especially if they have professional aspirations. It seems that the “haves” “stockpiling” of talent is going to be more difficult.
The new playoff structure skews wildly away from past “perfection”. There are now more ways and opportunities to win the NC.
Can Kelly navigate college football’s new world order? He was able to pull a generational talent from ASU. The Jayden Daniels LSU teams lost 4 and 3 games. Those teams won the Citrus and Reliaquest Bowls.
If you told me pre season that an LSU QB would win the Heisman I’d immediately think that they were in the NC hunt and favored. To date Kelly’s on field results don’t match LSU’s stellar legacy.
Kelly knows he’s asked for an LSU 4th year mulligan after his year 3 spiel. He needs a deep run next year or the new coach drumbeat will grow louder..:

This past month, Freeman beat 3 teams that finished in the AP top 10.
That equals Kelly’s 12 season ND total.
Tulsa, South Florida, and Kelly’s former team Cincinnati all came into South Bend and beat his brains in.
