Oh okay, you must know more than this scout:

Flashes good athleticism in the pocket and above average mobility as a runner.

If he’s good enough to see the field next season he will. If not you have your answer.

Not sure any contender would want to keep only 1 or 2 QBs on the team. You gotta sign a bunch of good players and let them compete.

It seems like his best course of action is to keep working under Joe Sloan and developing for at least this next season. He will have a shot to be the backup this year, because if he’s already made progress, there’s no guarantee Swann beats him out for that job. We’ll know more about that after Spring. If he gets the backup job, he’s just a snap away from the field and then you never know how a guy will step into that spotlight.

If Collins isn’t able to make a move next year, then he will probably look at transferring. If he does develop some, his athleticism will get him a spot somewhere, even if it’s at a G5.

Meh
They all throw at practice. The coaches know if he’s good or not. If he leaves due to lack of PT then that’s fine.
If he’s smart and good he stays. Because in 2025/26 Nuss is gone and he’s the top dawg if he has it

4 star, highly regarded local QB, understudy of a Heisman winner and his heir apparent Nuss. In comes AJ and Colin with Bryce now on the way. Easy to think he might bolt but he's gaining invaluable knowledge and skills with top notch coaching, training and technology in a proven QB friendly system. When does he see the field with meaningful snaps at LSU?

College football is littered with former 4 and 5 star QB's who didn't pan out aftr high school. Some of that is self inflicted, some of it is the systems/coaches. But to say that Ricky Collins should be worried or should just transfer now is ridiculous. Now, I know you didn't use those words, but that is what you are insinuating. Collins right now has the upper hand being in the system at LSU already, but they all really have the same shot as the backup right now, and I can guarantee that 2 of the three QB's that we are talking about will not be on LSU's roster by the end of next season, or the season after.

He probably won't, but he'd rather learn from better coaches and players than maybe starting at fricking Vandy.

He probably hits the portal after spring ball honestly

You also have the Vandy transfer who will slot in front of him

Is what it is at QB these days, only 1 guy is gunna play ultimately and pretty much every QB wants to play. It's hard to stick around for 3-4 years as a backup somewhere hoping you may get your shot finally as a 4th-5th year player in many cases.

Glad Nuss stuck it out here, going to pay dividends for him

QB is the one position (I guess besides kicker and punter) that coaches don't want to rotate. It's also the most important position. In an ideal situation the backup only plays in blowout wins...at a time when the coaches are not looking to get him meaningful experience but rather just to run out the clock. (Taking a snap and handing off is not "meaningful" experience)

Collins will have an opportunity to compete. But the coaches owe a duty to the team as a whole, not just one player. So if they think having an experienced backup on the roster is vital there is no reason for me to disagree. If Collins is good enough to play and the opportunity presents itself he will play. If not, he may chose to go elsewhere...which is COMPLETELY understandable.

He was committed to Purdue when Jeff Brohm was there. Brohm is one of the really good passing/QB coaches around. He is at Louisville now…

Imagine having to play a WR at QB in a bowl game because of transfers and opt outs leave you without a QB.

I have no idea what his style is but having “above average mobility as a runner” doesn’t make you a dual threat or running QB.

He has a real shot at playing time next year if Nuss gets injured.

But will likely transfer assuming Underwood makes it through signing day.

He has a great skill set that can be utilized in other ways than just QB. Portal and NIL swings both ways now.

Their QB room is way more crowded than what we have.
