He basically agreed with every close call that went our way, preventing some of the late PI calls against Auburn to turn into a national narrative of why we won.
He called them good calls and by doing so squandered any complaints that we were lucky, before they ever started (except by auburn radio).
Y’all need to get a frickjng life.

I didn't get to hear the broadcast because I was watching at a bar with some friends and my parents, but a few of my buddies were texting throughout the game that Danielson was screwing up a ton.

FWIW, I like Danielson too. I'm curious to watch the replay now.

There seemed to be general disarray from all quarters. Danielson and Nessler mentioned several times that the referees were simply incorrectly identifying penalized players. So, I'm not sure what was going on.

The booth's biggest miss was not getting ahead of the non-caught ball (same play as the hands-to-the-head penalty.) To be fair, I was somewhat surprised it was overturned, just because the replay officials' behavior seems designed to induce maximum frustration.

However, all the hysterical claims of anti-LSU bias are nonsense IMO. I went back and watched the 4th quarter. Both commentators gushed over the awesome LSU plays (e.g. Dee Anderson 3rd down conversion). Gary also knighted for Burrow quite a bit. And when it came to the most controversial plays - the 2 PIs - Gary said several times "easy call, right call". He even pointed out the fact that the stadium replay guy was more-or-less intentionally trying to stoke the crowd by not showing the full play.

GD is generally very good and even-handed. Something was off Saturday. He kept referring to LSU beating Washington week 1. Maybe he was ill. Who knows. Give him a chance to have a bad game on rare occasions.

At one point early in the 4th it even came off to me that he was actively rooting for Burrow to complete a string of passes so he could talk him up.

I didn’t think he was biased at all. I think he’s just clearly losing his mental sharpness. He steadily called people the wrong names and got the teams confused throughout the broadcast. I don’t think he could be biased even if he wanted to be bc he’d get confused about which team he was pulling for. It’s about time they pull the plug on him and he can retire with Verne.

I don’t usually like him, but this past Saturday made it worse.

Not his best game but he is the best in the business and by a huge margin.

He had a bad day. i usually like him. It's so much better without Vern on there, it's not even the same broadcast. So glad that fat toad lovin' Bama fan is gone.

He's usually good, but yeah, those irritated me a bit. I don't remember him being all that bad on the Jefferson catch. I thought he had said there wasn't enough to overturn it several times...

But yeah, that Auburn catch was clearly incomplete and I couldn't believe that he couldn't see it.

And I usually like Gary Danielson.

The first call by GD that irritated me was the catch by Jefferson on the sidelines that was called in by the line judge. Gary was going off and was adamant that Jefferson landed out. The replay confirmed that not only was it a catch but Jefferson double tapped one foot inbounds and it was good enough to be called a reception in CFB and the NFL.

The next call by Gary that was very irritating was the Auburn receiver losing control of the ball while falling out of bounds. After replay the ref confirmed it was an incomplete pass but Danielson continued on with his commentary as if it was an Auburn reception. It was the weirdest thing.

What should really amaze you the most is the amount of game-tape this dude watches and how he talked about in-game how much Dave Aranda blitzed on Saturday.

Danielson is fooled real-time exactly like OL's and OC's are. You see, Aranda only sent more than 4 rushers once Saturday.

That's right. Go back and look at the tape. Per some film study I saw on Twitter, we didn't blitz Stidham at all. Yet we sent 1 LB, 2 LB, Safeties. Corners. Which would look like a blitz from a certain perspective.

But in reality, we only rushed 4. We just mixed it up over and over. Auburn had trouble with it. We only got one sack, but for a kid who threw for 3,000+ yards passing last year, he definitely struggled.

So did Danielson. So will a lot of people when they try to describe Aranda's Defense.

Absolutely none of this shite happened. GD said he didn't see anything that would overturn the call and that's what replay determined. You may not know this, but when replay confirms something, the official says the play is confirmed. When there is no evidence to the contrary, they say the play stands. On this call that is what GD said.

This said, he did have a bad day with a lot of confused statements, but this was not one of them.
