I’m confused about a few things but one stands out that’s not being discussed

I know people have spoke about the first half defense. Which I get and was frustrated about but I can at least understand the thought process behind it.
I know people have spoken about the 3rd and goal direct snap. Which I get being frustrated about in hind sight but i can understand it. It’s worked all season. It’s safe and you should preserve 3 no matter what to tie it.
The baffling thing to me is we did nothing to establish the run in the first half
Someone will have to get the numbers but designed runs seemed like single digits. Our defense was reeling, Leavitt was shaken and instead of getting jones going and slowing down the game we kept forcing 3 and outs.
As soon as we tried to run we did it.

dont know the stats, but it def seemed like we established the run in the second half. Some nice 8 yard-ish runs all over the second half comeback

This is not hard to find.
Dylan Jones had 23 rushing attempts. Gauge had three rushing attempts. That’s 26 combined
Sam had at least another three or four designed runs

Don't be confused about this - we only played, at most, half a game. If we played the whole game we win 37 - 17.

I want to say I saw a stat that we only had 2 designed runs in the first 3 drives or something like that. It baffled me because Lane said multiple times that you have to pack you defense and your run game to win on the road and then he didn't script any runs in his initial game script.

We outgained them by 100 yards on the ground. Taking out Leavetts runs and we were 26 caries for 106 yards, over 4 ypc. We were also down 17 quick in a hostile environment where defense was getting overwhelmed for a bit. There energy to start the game was always going to make it difficult to get running going at first but we did eventually establish the run and it helped with the comeback.

The thing i hated the most was Clark coming in. He was absolutely no threat. Bring in another blocker (like on the earlier direct snap TD) and lets eat.

In my opinion, this was the most glaring decision making problem. I think we had two designed runs total in the first three series.
In that environment, with a QB who has shown early game jitters in both prior games, that was inexcusable. I'm sure the coaching staff would love a mulligan there. Should have tried to settle things down and trying to weather the initial emotional wave. Against one of the better offenses in the country as well.
Ironically, Kiffin/Weis history shows they love to establish the run. It's a staple in the offensive game plan. As shown in the 4th series, even down 0-17 they made running a priority.
First three series got away from them but I'm chalking that up as an anomaly.

It felt like a bad time to take Leavitt out though. He was in a rhythm , we had all the momentum, and he had already run for a TD down there (and had some other really good runs). Taking him out eliminated one of our biggest threats on offense in the red zone. The guy has 6 rushing TDs already and is averaging 5 ypc. It also helped the D key on the RB in that situation..

Like I said I can second guess it but I can at least make an argument for it.
Completely abandoning the run in the first half I can’t make an argument for

4 turnovers and a rattled QB from the week before, there should have been a STRONG run commitment from the jump.

The only way running the same play a second time works there is if Jones can throw it to Clark if Clark is open. Didn’t look like Jones even looked over there though.
