Kelvin Sheppard

He has the same talent level at OSU as LSU and a weaker schedule every year. He'd do worse at LSU than OSU, IMO.

Jimmy McGinty. He did more with less then any coach in history!

I don’t think Kirby would be as good of a “fit” at LSU. Just my $.02
Kirby’s style is very similar to Saban how wouldn’t he be a good fit?

Remember when some here wanted Kelvin Sheppard
I don't know about everyone, but in my mind, that was when we still thought the athletic department was trying to pinch pennies and Sheppard could be hired for relatively cheap.

I think Kirby would be a solid answer
Higher floor. You don’t worry about him imploding and he still has a very high ceiling.
I do think he has his issues. His offenses have been underwhelming outside the couple years he had Todd Monken as his OC. He’s Mark Richt outside those 2 years.
I think Ohio State makes Ryan Day. Maybe the most overrated coach in college football.
Cignetti still doesn’t feel real and he leans on coordinators too much. I don’t think that team wins a championship any other year.
Sark is a poor man’s lane. Why Kiffin had to go through FAU while drunk Sark got Texas right out of Alabama is beyond me.
I think Kiffin runs a risk of just blowing up but I think the ceiling is sky high

There is no one better set up for success in today’s college landscape than LK

Easy answer, if not LK, then Saban.

Kelly could have crushed it here.
No he could not have because Brian Kelly is a fraud. His resume is filled with lots of wins sure but he is average (at best) against quality teams. Many of his top 25 are really top 20-25 wins. Worst hire LSU made in a long time.

Absolutely: Curt Cignetti. That is a no brainer. I hope we get a chance to prove me wrong at some point in the near future.

I mean he has been crushing it at OSU too… and the Big 10 has won the last 3 national championships.
Kirby is the obvious answer long term. Cignetti if it’s short term.

I would not trade anyone for Lane at the moment because he seems to be the right combination of innovative and motivated for LSU to have success...
If I was forced to trade someone for Lane, it would be Mike Elko.

So, the winningest coach in Notre Dame football history seems like a good choice, right?

quote:You're confused. The guy who wins here will fit. In other words, you hire the coach who is most likely to win games for LSU, not the one who is a "culture fit". Nick Saban was not a culture fit for LSU, so I don't care if Kirby Smart is a culture fit either.
