The BigXII's chasing away members have cost the game a great number of rivalries. OU Nebraska is another one.

True.
Weirdly, LSU does not even have a true rivalry. It was lost when Tulane went to crap.

LSU has rivalries sure, but we are not the main rival of anyone.

This is true. But our fellow conference members aren't exactly fond of us . They hate losing to us, and they love beating us. As far as I'm concerned they're all our rivals and they can all get fricked.

The SEC will tell aTm when they have to play LSU which means that it will be dictated by the networks.

I want Arkansas on Black Friday at 2:30 on CBS. It’s the only day game I’d actually like. If that’s not possible then we should just swap our bye week to that weekend. At least let us get A&M on Black Friday. Playing the same day as the Iron Bowl & other rivalries just isn’t a good idea.

That used to be a great one but by the time the league dismantled, the rivalry was the equivalent of Bama-Tennessee modern day. It’s just not a big deal anymore. Nebraska will never be on OUs level again. Just my opinion though.

No, when Nebraska and ou played their last "annual" matchup, that was 1997. Nebraska was ranked number one that day.
Oklahoma has Texas they can recruit and Nebraska would use the Oklahoma game to woo Texas recruits.

Losing that game killed the Nebraska program. Look at their records since they agreed to kill it.

People have always said LSU has a tremendous advantage being the only school in the state. I've always said it held them back. When rivalry week gets here, LSU is left without one. You HAVE to have that instate game. It draws viewers, it creates an atmosphere that recruits love. Before u say we should move Bama to that weekend, that ain't happening in a billion years. Ever. When I say rivalry, it has to mean the same to both teams. Iron bowl, egg bowl, uf-fsu, usc-ucla, on and on. LSU needs a p5 instate game but doesn't have it and it leaves them with unattractive games or slots for that weekend. LSU should have let that arkie game grow. It would have developed into a must watch but LSU kept downplaying it. Same with a&m. Now, a&m is gonna get back their big rival and LSU will continue to be a non issue on rivalry weekend and that's a huge weekend for national viewers to watch games.

A&M sells 35,000 season tickets, and we know from experience (used to play Texas on that date) that it's impossible to get them back to campus for a Friday game unless there are extraordinary circumstances. We used to be able to get them to stay over an extra day when we had on campus bonfire on Wednesday night, but now that it's off campus and on Tuesday, that's no help. LSU won't play on Thursdays--fine, we don't want to play on Fridays.

As to A&M playing Texas that weekend, I don't see that happening. Nobody wants to be held hostage by the horns, and have them wreck the schedule the next time they decide to take their ball and go home (they've done it twice to us). You'd also have to Kansas on board with playing Missouri, so that would get the SEC knee deep in Big XII affairs, which no one wants.

If A&M plays Texas, it will be in September, and probably a 2 game contract.

Rick Nueheisel is a huge proponent of keeping traditional rivalries going on his show. He is right, doing away with them is killing some teams.

I've heard people say Nebraska and ou stopped playing "for the good of the conference". Was it really for the best? The Big 12 should have done whatever it took to keep that game. They have now lost 3 major players in their conference. Texas decided to stop playing A&M. Look at their records since then. Mac Brown didn't just forget how to coach one day. He didn't get the material anymore.

Rivalry week is the biggest recruiting weekend of the year. Those kids go to those games, in those environments and WANT to play in those games. The Iron Bowl has an electricity that you can't describe. It is unlike any environment I've ever seen. 2 hours before kickoff you can't hear a thing in the stadium with the noise coming from both sides. I'm sure UF-FSU is the same. Texas and A&M was that way. Nebraska-OU was that way. Recruits feed off that stuff.

So you think getting kids to campus for a Friday game is hard but getting them there for a Thursday game is not hard??

OU doesn’t need Nebraska. They have Bedlam and the Texas games for that recruiting tool. Nebraska needed it more than OU did

LSU and Ole Miss could be that and once was but Ole Miss has failed to maintain stability in their program for decades on end. But that rivalry has real hate from Ole Miss and would have the same from LSU if Ole Miss was consistently a good program. And your rivalry game doesn't need to be on rivalry weekend. The biggest game in the Big12 every year is Oklahoma/Texas and that game is played annually in October. In many ways Florida/UGA is both teams' biggest game, and that game is also played every year in October or the first weekend in November. Tennessee's biggest game every year is Alabama, also played in October. No one gets up for UT/Vandy or UGA/Tech. One of the biggest rivalries in CFB history, Notre Dame and USC, is not played on "rivalry weekend" either. And so on...

I hated that Friday game. Student section empty.

Same is true on the Saturday game.

This was a game we made every year, A family tradition of sorts. I was sad to see it go.

it would have taken a century for that rivalry to develop into anything more than just another conference game.

very rarely did we enter that game with both sides still alive for the West (‘02 & ‘11).
even when there was upsets, the losing team didn’t really lose anything.
‘06, Army still went to Atlanta
‘07, LSU still won the natty.

and the two schools as are far apart geographically that there’s very little fan interaction during rest of the year.

really tough to build a rivalry with almost zero historical hate, and the fans don’t have to live/work with each other.
