Never know what can happen in college football.
Look at UK and UGA.

We win the rest but 1 we are in the playoffs.

Wasted how? We have less talent than we have had in decades. Nobody who really follows LSU would realistically expect us to make the playoffs. Maybe we get lucky though but do we really belong? Would you enjoy watching great teams destroy us before Christmas?

There was a time where fans just followed LSU without expectations. It was a lot more fun.

Which games did you expect to lose and still make the playoffs?
No I did not expect this team to be a National Championship contender. I keep up with LSU enough to understand the defense wasn’t going to magically jump to a top 25, championship caliber defense. I knew what we lost on offense to realize we might start slow, and need to find identity at some key spots.

What hype? Any hype was made up in fan’s heads. Which part of this team from last year was coming in to warrant “hype”?

Or are we getting the most out of our talent on the current roste

Yes on the defense, No on offense.

We have players on defense that shouldn’t be on the field, but we have no one else, and/or they are being played because of their seniority.
We aren’t very good at linebacker. Our Dline has been the biggest surprise, but still aren’t getting much pressure.

Offensively the Oline is the biggest disappointment. They are better than they are playing.

With all that said once they figure it out the offense can be unstoppable. The problem is the defense will never be very good. We just need them to continue to make strides and they’ll get better with each game.

This team is not a playoff team, never was, but the potential is there for them to grow and steal a game they’re suppose to lose.

Starting out 0-1 every season pretty much means we have to win out. So yes, the season would be a huge disappointment as usual, but I wouldn’t consider it a waste if we’re not in the dance.

Well you're assuming 10-2 gets in the playoffs.

People need to quit reading into this he’s literally talking about all the people who got fired after their 10-3 season last year.

Well I think you literally don't know what he means. IMO, Will Campbell is saying that a 10 win season AT LSU is not good enough. The players have a higher expectation and standard for themselves.

Of course. I think college football should develop a survival type format. Once a team is mathematically eliminated from possibility of making the playoff their season should be immediately canceled. In this day and age so many of you believe bowls do not matter, games that do not have playoff connection do not matter. These ppl also believe that players on these teams should quit once a team reaches this point because they may get a bruised ego that will affect their draft status. So let’s go to a winner take all format.

It’s year 3

He "inhereted" 38 scholarship players and won 10 games in his first year. This is year 3 of his tenure and by HIS words we will compete for championships in year 3 so if he doesn't at least win 11 games and make the playoffs his tenure here is a complete and utter FAILURE!!! No excuses no passes HE needs to be held accountable..We as fans have a right to voice our opinions about our 100 million dollar coach who is UNDERPERFORMING

While that’s true - he’s not saying people deserve to get fired this year if LSU goes 10-2 & definitely not talking about BK’s job security. I think that’s where it gets misinterpreted. He’s saying that because it already happened

I've been attending LSU football games since 1949 - there has never been a wasted season in my eyes.

Most of the people predicting 10-2 had USCw as a sure W. Thinking we get through the rest of the season with only one loss to Ole Miss, Bama, etc is a tall order and probably unrealistic based on the current product we're seeing on the field.

Being 6-6 would be a wasted season.

It's going exactly how you should have expected. Kelly's initial defensive hires were awful. It killed us in recruiting. That's exactly why we are in the situation we are in now. Wish casting during the off season doesn't change the fact that our DT and DB rooms are the worst they have been in years. And that is entirely on Kelly in Year 3.

No, they don’t have enough talent on defense to be a playoff team.

not really. I never expected LSU with its tough schedule, to win 10 games with so many question marks on defense. Everything I expected LSU to be good at on offense, it less than I hoped and expected. If we win 8 games this year, it should be considered successful. Next year if our OL/DL improves, could be playoff potential.

It's year 3 of a coach being paid $10M and the playoff field has been expanded to 12. Yes it's an absolute failure to miss the playoffs. Basically all he had to do was not lose to USC and then 6-2 in conference gets us into the playoff. But yet again, he managed to not have his team ready to win.

Not making the playoffs this year or any year in the future would be considered a complete failure. There are 12 playoff spots and it is expected that we should always be a contender. I do not think this is unreasonable. If we do not make the playoffs this year, I do not expect Woody to fire Kelly. But, if we do not make it this year and next year, then calls need to be made to get the funds to buy out Kelly.

The significance of of year 3:
LSU's last 3 coaches have won championships in year 3.
- SABAN 2003
- MILES 2007
- CEO 2019

Even Kelly said, judge me at year 3. You must be a contender. The last 3 guys won it all in their third year. We don't expect that he should win it all in his third year, but if you are not even part of the 12 team playoff to have the opportunity to even play for a championship, then that is considered a complete failure.

Simply no other way to spin it.
It is a failure.

No.

This was unlikely to be a CFP team from the outset. FAR too many uncertainties and personnel holes.

Now, you can criticize Kelly for allowing those personnel deficiencies to be in place. But being angry because LSU may not make the CFP THIS year is a result of setting the expectations for this team too high

It's a rebuilding season-- it's by no means a wasted season.

LSU's problem with injuries, attrition and rampant inexperience at key positions, especially on defense, have pretty well precluded any "playoff" run. The team that's currently on the field is not very good

Well this isn't true at all

Y'all know the playoffs are not just the top 12 ranked teams, right?
