Well he has nothing to regret because he did nothing.

The NFL made the rule.

This is a capitalist society where businesses can determine their own hiring practices.

For every Stingley there are 100s of other freshmen who are going to try and go pro and faiL and they would be done.

The NFL would rather have a free minor league

I hope he doesn't play both ways. The college football game is a hard grind. I cringed everytime he received a punt

Doesn’t work that way unfortunately. But he will conceivably be worth more in two years.

How much higher can his stock rise? Probably not much. It sure can fall though. Injury or a few bad games. In football, guys usually take the early money bc the future is uncertain.

What makes the NFL any different than other companies that have experience and/or age requirements to hire someone?

He chose football. Stfu.

I think the difference is the risk of someone's value being seriously decreased is a lot lower in other industries than the NFL. Also, because pro sports careers are notoriously short any delay in the time that players are able to join said league also greatly affects their earning potential.

I have been told at least 3 times since football season started that I made a comment that was the worst in the history of this board. Either my posts are getting worse or you guys just really love hyperbole

which is why the NFL has decided not to let 18 year olds in.

literally every single job on the planet has minimum requirements.

some are as simple as being able to breathe on your own.
some require years of schooling and specialized training.
many have minimum age requirements.

just because you think you are “ready”, doesn’t mean a particular employer HAS to give you a chance.

Those down voters have that "master" mentally that America was founded on. This system must and soon will be abolished

I assume you are against salary caps and revenue sharing as well? You pretty much have to be.

You know w Stingley could just sit Out until he's draft eligible, right?

I'm sure the rookie scale will be higher so he will probably make more. But I learned in my Federal Income Tax class about something called the "Time Value of Money" and how acquiring revenue now is almost always preferable to deferring it to the future.

Thats not how time value of money works at all.

Capitalism is partially the reason the system is how it is. The NFL has a free farm system that allows for their rookies to have maximum exposure when they enter the league.

Well don't let me explain it then. Let the experts explain. LINK

quote:

The time value of money (TVM) is the concept that money you have now is worth more than the identical sum in the future due to its potential earning capacity. This core principle of finance holds that provided money can earn interest, any amount of money is worth more the sooner it is received. TVM is also sometimes referred to as present discounted value.

quote:

The time value of money draws from the idea that rational investors prefer to receive money today rather than the same amount of money in the future because of money's potential to grow in value over a given period of time. For example, money deposited into a savings account earns a certain interest rate and is therefore said to be compounding in value.

In other words the argument that Stingley shouldn't care about entering the draft now because he can still make money later is flawed because money he could be receiving right now could essentially be making him more money.

Also, we all know the real money any pro athlete gets from their team contract during their career comes from their 2nd and 3rd contract, not their rookie contract. The sooner a player enters the league the younger they are when they enter their second contract and the greater the likelihood is of them being able to negotiate a bigger deal.

I would bet his future contract and Burrow’s that Stingley isn’t, not even a single little bit ticked.

I bet it all that he is thrilled for his teammates and anxious to get back on the field as a defending SEC and National champion and excited to take a few snaps on offense this year.

So stop wondering about dumb arse shite.

If he isn't then great. He is already an LSU legend in my opinion and has an opportunity to solidify that status even more. However, I do wish exceptional freshman like him or Kayvon Thibodeaux at Oregon had the option to go make money to support themselves and their families sooner. I mean NFL careers are getting shorter and shorter and guys retiring by age 30 is normal now (Calvin Johnson, Luke Kuechly, Patrick Willis, etc). Guys coming into the league at age 21-23 only have 7-9 years in some cases to make that big money before they have to find a new way to support themselves. It doesn't mean I hate LSU or want the worst for the team because I want this kid to be able to do what is best for him.
