This is an unpopular opinion but there are just too damn many people on campus jamming up parking and making traffic before and after the game a nightmare.

Downvote away. But if it was up to me no one gets on campus without a ticket to the game. Students still have access. But actual ticketholders can attend the game without the massive crowds and congestion paralyzing the campus and the whole area.

Too many people come for the free party and then leave. They contribute nothing to the LSU “economy”. You should have to pay to get on campus without a ticket in hand on game day.

For those who think traffic isn’t worse, consider the added fans, seats and increased tailgate presence in the last 30 years alone. It’s MUCH bigger than ever. Numbers below.

Capacity 102,321 (2014–present)
92,542 (2011–14)
92,400 (2005–10)
91,600 (2000–04)
80,000 (1994–99)
80,150 (1987–93)
78,000 (1978–86)

Traffic - it is simply not worth it.

I would rather go to any other venue for a major college football game than Tiger Stadium.

Have you priced a decent hotel on game day? On top of high prices add a tourist tax and downtown parking. We’ve gone to airbnb but it’s not much better and they are going up for games and some 2 nights minimum. Like everything else being a season ticket holder and going to all home games isn’t what it use to be. I don’t blame people for looking out for themselves. With coaches getting paid big $$ and players getting paid big $$, seems like the fan has to look out for themselves.

We didn't have that problem yesterday. We rolled in around 2 and it was EASY. We really didn't have terrible trouble leaving after the game either

Women attending is the biggest issue.

This would never work. Nor would it solve anything. How many people would actually have rooms in those hotels? 200-300, at most? How many people would wait in line for tables at those restaurants? Maybe 100, at most?
And I just don't see how any of that would help with traffic or fans leaving early.

It's the traffic jam, plain and simple. Our stadium is too big for the access roads that surround it.

My most recent experience: Waited 40 minutes just to get out of the parking lot. I was trying to get to I-10 headed east, but the cops routed me north into the contraflow, where we kept going and going ....all the way past the State Capitol, where I was finally able to wind my way onto the freeway and head back south....I finally passed the Dalrymple Drive exit (and rejoined the other postgame traffic) about 90 minutes after I got to my car.

I've been to games at other places and our traffic problems are not unique. Games in Austin, College Station, Norman and Athens are all the same. Big stadiums equal big traffic.

They go out tailgate all day. Finally get into the stadium at 6:30. Stay for 3-4 hours then walk to their car and sit for another 2-3 hours. It’s awful.

I’ve been going to games since the mid 60’s and not once have I sat 2-3 hours in traffic. The traffic is virtually the same with the exception of not driving directly onto campus.

And the drunks haven’t changed either. They have been drunks since well before my time. I listened to my parents talk about fans throwing whiskey bottles off the top of the stadium and onto the field on a regular basis in the late 40’s and 50’s where they sat where I sit today.

If there has been any change I would say it is less drunks behind the wheels now as then when most car drivers were drunk. Sometimes it was like the bumper cars at Fun Fair Park coming out of there.

I think what’s most unique is LSU plays most of their games at night. More people would stay if it didn’t mean getting home past midnight.

I feel like a 4:30-5:00 kickoff could fix some issues, but it would never be possible with the TV contracts.

May not kickoff at night, but would get some play at night and be able to get home after game at a reasonable time.

At the usc game it was like everyone that sat beside me was in a drinking competition. Watched people going on non stop beer runs and having no time to cheer or watch the game.

It’s the traffic especially if you have to cross the bridge. There should be a pedestrian ferry for games.

Restaurants I think would do well year around but how much traffic would a hotel right by campus see outside of the 7 home football weekends?

It would maybe see an uptick for big baseball weekends and any concert in Tiger Stadium but by in large it would be vacant the majority of the year.

#1 reason I stopped going to games is being stuck around obnoxious drunk people in the stands.

Bad take..It’s about whether you want to watch the entire game or not. The clientele that leaves have never cared about the game as much as the party before. They’re not crawling out of the stadium drunk and tired. Nothing more nothing less.

All that empty land on Nicholson from campus to downtown would be perfect for that.

I think what you’re saying is true for a lot of people, but not the majority of the crowd

If that makes any sense

I’ll say this though, and maybe you were referring mainly to the student section, but they were PACKED at the start of the game, but it was like they all went to smoke a joint at halftime and forgot to come back

It’s traffic.

It’s been traffic for decades, so I don’t know why people still bitch. If you don’t like postgame traffic, don’t go to the game at all.
