re: LSU and Clemson should mutually agree to cancel next year’s opener
Posted by PurpleExile on 12/4/25 at 12:29 am to Sheppards Pie
The P4 conferences need to copy what basketball does and schedule league-wide challenges.
One year the SEC and ACC could match up early in the season, along with the Big Ten playing the Big 12. They could rotate to playing another P4 conference the next season and so on.
The pairings could be set the same way basketball does, so Ohio State doesn't get Mississippi State, etc. Football games don't need to be scheduled 10 years in advance like they're doing now. You could base the matchups off the previous season's finishes within each conference.
Based on that, LSU would play Nebraska from the Big Ten, Louisville from ACC or Cincinnati from Big 12. (Whiny Texas would be matched against Michigan, Pitt or Arizona).
Just an idea.

re: Hester trying to get Jimbo to LSU
Posted by PurpleExile on 11/26/25 at 11:57 am to Jim bean xxx
A lot of these radio guys base their opinions upon how friendly of a radio guest the coach has been. They become advocates for the coach, thinking they have an inside source.
Hester has probably interviewed Drinkwitz a few times on his Sirius/XM show. Hence the push to hire Drinkwitz.
Hester needs to listen to the thousands of fans who groan at the mere mention of Dinkwitz's name as LSU coach. It would sap the energy out of the fan base overnight.
I don't see Jimbo as a serious candidate for anything. Kiffin is considered one of the best offensive minds in college football. Don't need or want Jimbo.

He's a kid. Kids say stupid stuff all the time.
He and his family have had a lot to deal with lately.
They're about to have 54 million dollars to help them get over it.
Hiring his old man seemed like a good decision at the time, but the dad quit caring as soon as he started getting the paychecks.
Just let them all go away. Start again somewhere else.
His kid was hurt for what they did to his dad. But it's a smidgen of how hurt millions of LSU alums, fans, coaches and former players feel about the way Kenzel Kelly's dad did his job.

re: Do you really want Lane for 13-15 mill?
Posted by PurpleExile on 11/18/25 at 11:21 am to Tigernomics
Not my money, so yeah. I want him.
Lane has been with some of the best programs in college football. He worked with Saban. He has seen what works and doesn't work. He's been both a highly regarded assistant and a head coach.
He would hit the ground running, already knowing what he needs to do as LSU's head coach. That puts him miles ahead of any assistant coach or coordinator we might settle for.

This board is insufferable. If any of you don't like Moscona, all you have to do is change the radio dial to that Cool Jazz station that I know you like.
Matt works hard and puts together good shows every day. He has good sources, and he protects them by not going off half-cocked. When he's just guessing, he says so...but his guesses are always well-sourced.
Of course he was upset about the Woodward firing. He lost his Catholic High connection. (maybe Woodward wasn't telling him stuff, but Woodward's CHS cronies were).
I don't know how you can say, though, that he doesn't know what he's talking about. Gordon is as well-connnected as anybody, and Gordon and Moscona talk regularly. That is obvious.

re: Lane using LSU and UF as leverage
Posted by PurpleExile on 11/18/25 at 11:03 am to HvacGoon
Nobody is playing anybody.
LSU is one of the top jobs in the country, and Kiffin has been around long enough to know that. Plus, Sexton and Saban are telling him the same thing.
Given the choice of LSU, Florida or staying at Ole Miss, they know the best route to multiple national titles is with LSU.
Kiffin/Sexton aren't trying to create a bidding war. Kiffin is already assured of becoming college football's highest paid coach. An extra one or two million isn't going to help him make his decision.
He wants to win, and he knows it's a lot easier to win big at LSU than at Ole Miss/Oxford or Florida in its current situation.

The entire opinion piece is trash, filled with inaccuracies, misinterpretations and ill-placed conclusions.
I was no Woodward fan. He made his own bed when he hired Kelly and failed to provide oversight on Kelly's flagging interest in the task at hand. I couldn't care less who left the Aggies on the hook for Jimbo Fisher's money. Woodward's sin was hiring a disappointing coach. It happens.
The article neglected to throw even the barest of shade on the moron who roosts in the governor's mansion. He is our state's national embarrassment, not the LSU athletic department, not Woodward, not Carville, not the Will Wade/McMahon folly.
LSU still has a strong brand. People need to be asking why Landry and his buddies are working so hard to damage it.
All in all, it's a crap opinion piece. But then again this board is called Tiger Droppings.

re: Have you ever seen what happened on the blocked FG?
Posted by PurpleExile on 11/10/25 at 12:44 am to GarTiger
I think the refs ruled this like it was the Leon Lett play (Thanksgiving, 1993), when really it wasn't.
First, it's a terrible rule. When a defender leaps to block a kick, there's probably a 75-80% chance it's going to bounce off either an offensive or defensive lineman. So the stupid rule is saying that it's OK for a great defensive play's outcome to be determined by a random, unintentional carom of the football.
The ball Sunday hit a Carolina player first. Why didn't Kellen Moore scream bloody murder and challenge the call?
Leon Lett was the first person to touch the blocked Miami kick in 1993, so that was different.
This is one of the worst rules in the NFL book. The other truly horrible one is the one that awards a touchback when a guy fumbles at the 1-yard line and the ball bounces out of bounds in the end zone. Bad rules.

re: Thoughts on Nuss’s “Injury”
Posted by PurpleExile on 11/6/25 at 7:29 am to Bridges12
I think Nussmeier was truly hurt during preseason practices and doctors recommended a minor clean-up surgery which would have knocked Nuss out for several weeks.
Kelly said no way. Nuss and his daddy said no way. And so he has tried to play through it.
I think our offensive tackles suck and that's caused Nuss to take a weekly beating. I think if a couple of 300-pound guys fell on you, you'd be slow to get to your feet, too.
I also think our receivers haven't helped things because they have repeatedly failed to create any separation from defenders.
Add it all up, and we're 5-3 with a solid chance of finishing 7-5.

re: Will the media ask any decent questions today?
Posted by PurpleExile on 10/20/25 at 11:15 am to Draconian Sanctions
I'm curious to hear what some of you consider "decent" questions.
There are two kinds of questions that people ask at those things:
Questions that they expect the coach to answer, and questions that people ask just to say they asked a question (TV guys do this all the time).
If you ask something with an obvious answer, you're wasting valuable press conference time.
Questions have to be insightful and unambiguous. You can't ask, "Coach, your right tackle had one of the worst games in LSU history. Are you going to bench him and take his NIL money away?"
Kelly would never answer that.
If somebody asks him about being worried about his job, he will just say that he knows he has to coach better and prepare the team better. End of answer.
The thing is, Kelly is the most cooperative and forthright football coach LSU has ever had. Miles and Orgeron answered queries in a lexicon all their own. Saban never answered anything, except telling the media to quit dispensing rat poison.

re: So Kelly is fine letting the OL struggle for one player’s “development”
Posted by PurpleExile on 10/14/25 at 6:06 pm to Geauxgurt
Kelly isn't going to throw a kid under the bus at a weekly news conference. The question was worded considerately, but Kelly dodged it. And since the media doesn't get to watch practice we have no idea who's practicing at RT this week.
You people that are saying, "Aw, he wasn't that bad against South Carolina" couldn't have watched the game in person. His run blocking was non-existent. His attempts to pass block lasted about a split-second.
The weird thing is they had Carius Curne -- who is already better than Davis -- on the sideline and never used him for a single snap.

This is not exclusive to Tiger Stadium. Ear-splitting, piped-in music is now a feature at NBA games, NFL games and even between pitches at baseball games.
I have complained and the answer I'm always given is, "Well, that's what the players want. They say it fires them up."
Sigh. Are the players going to chip in from their NIL millions when the paying customers stop going to the games?
Every athletic department has someone in charge of Game Management. That seems to be the guy/girl we need to dox and send our complaints to.
These game management people travel to meetings and conventions where they get fed this idea of turning everything up to 11 and making it non-stop. And the athletic directors just sit back and let it happen.

Once upon a time, when you would ask kids what they wanted to be when they grow up, they would say a doctor, an astronaut, a fireman . . .
My neighbor the school counselor says that the No. 1 answer these days is, "I want to be a YouTuber."

re: DAT 9/11. Astros (Javier) at Blue Jays (Gausman) 2:07
Posted by PurpleExile on 9/11/25 at 8:16 pm to Uncle Mike23
This is not the lineup of a division leading team. I mean, they are...for maybe the next 24 hours or so. But the Astros lineup doesn't stack up well when compared to the other five teams that appear headed to the postseason.
Houston has:
Worst general manager in MLB
One of the worst managers in the American League
A farm system that can't be counted upon to help the big club
A free agent bust at first base
A tired, inconsistent bullpen without Hader
And zero momentum heading into the season's final 15 games.
The golden years are over. The Astros are going to be passed by both the Mariners and the Rangers.
On a related front, best of luck to Alex Bregman and Kyle Tucker.

re: Favorite LSU "voice"??
Posted by PurpleExile on 9/1/25 at 12:54 pm to SuperFlyTiger
John Ferguson had the best voice for football of all of them, from JC Politz thru to Chris Blair. Go back and listen to the end of the '72 Ole Miss game or the win over Notre Dame at Tiger Stadium. Ferguson had a great, resonant announcer's voice, and when he raised it you knew it was for something special. When a pass missed or something untowardly happened, John had a way of conveying the pain and wincing.
Doug Moreau was an excellent color man for years, but as he got older it seemed he stopped doing his homework and he wasn't adding anything to the broadcasts. God bless him.
The current gang with Chris Blair (who is terrific), Jacob Hester and Gordy Rush might be our best ever from an overall standpoint. I think it would be even better if Gordy and Hester swapped places, with Gordy going to the booth to help Chris. But those ex-players like it on the sideline, I guess.

But here's a fun, true story:
There was a guy who used to work in a school's sports information department who left and started his own fan website. Lots of people signed up for free and began leaving comments about the football team. Nasty comments.
The SID asked his buddy who these anonymous complainers were. So the forum moderator buddy supplied him with not only the forum members usernames and real names, but also their home addresses.
So after the season the SID sent them all official athletic department Christmas cards -- addressed to their forum usernames.
Freaked them all out. The board messages for those few days were priceless.
True story. It wasn't an SEC school. Let's just say it was one in Texas.

Why would LSU choose to ignore Haulcy's possible suspension and risk the consequences? That doesn't make sense, and it doesn't seem at all like the way Kelly operates.
Some of you are saying that, of course, Kelly and LSU knew.
If they did, why take the chance of it being discovered after the game and the headlines and cries-for-forfeit that would have emerged afterwards?
What would make LSU think the Haulcy incident could be kept secret?
You people that are saying LSU knew have to realize that you're also saying that LSU was dumb enough to think nobody else would find out.

Posted by PurpleExile on 8/28/25 at 8:08 pm to Chicken
Lots of dumbassery being commented in this thread.
It's perfectly plausible that neither LSU nor Haulcy himself knew that (1) he had committed a suspension-worthy offense and (2) that the penalty would carry over to the next season and (3) to the player's next school.
Rules are rules, but sportsmanship still matters. And for Clemson to bring the matter to the NCAA's attention three days before the game is a dick move. But Clemson is gotta Clemson, I guess. This is why most of educated America laughs at Dabo.
If the SEC had a real commissioner, he would inform the NCAA that one of its conference members is questioning the timing and circumstances surrounding the BYU game altercation, and that LSU is appealing that nobody informed them in a timely manner.
Sankey should say, sure, LSU's appeal will be scheduled to be heard on Monday, Sept. 1. Haulcy's suspension could then be served for the first half of the Louisiana Tech game.
Eat it, Clemson.

So he wasn't some entitled punk. He just got lost in the wash at Alabama, and I have no clue why TCU couldn't use him. This is his third college.
