You do realize that Verne's career has been longer than most of us have been alive? He was GREAT in the 70s and 80s as the Dallas Cowboys radio play by play guy.

You'd be grateful to wipe Verne's arse.

When did Fournette run through Bama? I must have been asleep, I never saw that happen.
Yeah. I meant when he ran through Auburn. Thanks for pointing that out.

Yes, I heard Verne in those early days and he was much better, both on Dallas Cowboy games and Channel 8 sports.
The last few years, Verne couldn't say no to any buffets. He became a Bama apologist and was anti-LSU.

Neither of these is remotely true.

I liked him. It's going to be weird to hear someone else call those CBS SEC games from now on.

Perfect example of people twisting Verne's front running style to fit the anti school narrative.

Exactly . People think he was all over Bamas nuts during the game but that was only because Bama was constantly dragging their nuts all over us.

Is Gary gonna still be there? He's overrated IMO but not the worst.

They're immature

Apologist for what? Bama dominating the SEC for the better part of a decade?

quote:I miss Keith Jackson more, but I always liked Verne. Here in the last couple years he tended to screw up more, slightly annoying highlighted by his idiosyncrasies. You do have to admire how gently and smoothly Danielson would correct him. He and Danielson did make a great team, mistakes aside.

TOUCHDOWN AL-A-BAMA

When CBS did the LSU/Bama game as the doubleheader last year, Nessler called the first game in the afternoon. He made a number of mistakes and even got the score wrong a couple of times.
It won't take long for people to criticise him and decide he's biased against their team. It's absurd, but it will happen.
I just don't generally dislike announcers. I liked Verne and Danielson. Musberger and Franklin and Blackledge (sp?) were all good, Herbie, too. Check yourself if you find them objectionable. It's you, not them.

Verne's not biased.
Seriously, he makes millions.
Millions? Geez, maybe so. It's hard to believe they would pay that kind of money for someone so easily replaceable.
I tried to discover his salary, but no luck. The only thing I learned was his real name - Merton Laverne Lundquist

Yes he is a Texan. Remember him as the host for Bowling for Dollars in the early 70's on a local Dallas/Ft Worth TV channel. His voice and demeanor has never changed, it was the same then.
