His stats were good before these two games, even on 3rd down. One of the best in the conference.

This is my exact point. And yet he still could not get a stop against Kentucky and Ole Miss when it mattered most.

The only state that really mattered was x-2 and that in both of the “2”, Baker’s defense was the difference maker.

The offense was not great against a terrible Ole Miss defense. That game is not all on Baker. They couldn't stay on the field. He allowed a couple big drives to an all american QB on the road, but they did enough to win that game.

Kentucky score is misleading. They had a punt return TD and the overtime score (which was bad). Not a great game for him, but it wasn't horrific.

These games are blown out of proportion.

And if you are wrong will you stop posting on this board? Maybe you can get rid of all your LSU gear and be a kissing cousin fan. Thats what you sound like right now. People like you are more concerned with being right than anything else. We don't want to see you post anything else on this board if you are wrong.

Baker's defense hasn't allowed a first half touchdown at home this season. WTF are you talking about?

While true, some context is appropriate. Those opponents were (total offense national rank)

Clemson (117)
La Tech (67)
A&M (113)
McNeese
Miss. St - without their starting QB and RB

That's not to say the defense WILL allow a 1st half TD this week. But even at 38th in total offense this will, by far, be the best offense LSU has faced at home this season.

Expecting LSU to shut down Alabama like it did to Clemson, A&M and MSU is unrealistic. But it is reasonable to think LSU SHOULD be able to perform somewhat comparable to Tennessee and Georgia and hold Alabama in the 17-24 point range.

Anything beyond 24 points would be very disappointing because (1) LSU seems to have a good defense, or at least the personnel to be really good; particularly at home, and (2) While Alabama is not a "bad" offense, they haven't been good against really good defenses

The original comment that you replied to was talking about Baker in big games period, not just big home games.

I’ll take Baker against a freshman QB and banged up OL.

Putting all the blame on Bblaker seems wild to me considering the turnovers and penalties in the first half is the season.

We would be 8-0 #1 right now with better defense.
We would also be 8-0 with a better offense. That's kind of how it works. Our first half offense lost the Ole Miss game more than our defensive struggles, and our defense gave up all of 20 pts to Kentucky in regulation. This vendetta a few of you have against Blake Baker is weird and contrary to the obvious facts.

@Kentucky 21 points in first half We straight up lost both of these games due to defense.

You lied twice in that post. 7 points were on the defense and that was 1 busted assignment to start things off. 7 points off a point return with multiple blocks in the back that mysteriously weren’t called. That’s not on the defense, genius. The last 7 points was because the zebras swallowed their whistles for 6 seconds as the play was clearly done.

The offense had every chance to put the game away as well. Of course it still doesn’t excuse the 16 direct points gifted to KY by the officiating crew.

Lane Kiffin admitted the first half game plan against Ole Miss was his idea. Baker did a great job in the second half allowing us back into the game.

Kentucky the defense gave up zero TDs in the second half even though the offense set Kentucky up on our side of the field twice. Offense failed to end the game twice up 3 with the ball late in the 4th.

I'd hate for facts to get in the way of your dumbass opinion though.

How do you know this wasn’t just Kiffin falling on the sword for his DC?

You’d think that the head coach who was responsible for Chambliss’ development would know that sitting back in a soft arse defense would lead to getting picked apart.

If the Bama game is close and Baker's defense needs to stop Bama for LSU to win, I hope Baker doesn't repeat the "prevent" defense that let Old Miss and Kentucky cut through those offenses like soft butter to beat us.

I blame Baker for not trusting his excellent defensive players to build a defensive strategy that gives them a chance to win.

Im just going to say this. If you think our defense is THE REASON we lost to OM and Kentucky, you don't know ball

Maybe he was but Lane isn't usually very big on "coach speak". He said he wanted to keep everything in front of them. Only way to do that is play soft.

Dude get on the staff if you’re so smart. I mean, you clearly know at least as much as Baker and it sounds like you know exactly how to help him out. Send in your resume.

Nah, the TD allowed before half of that game was straight up inexcusable. Same with the 3rd down defense. They were damn near perfect on 3rd down in the first half, and they were all 3rd and longs. We couldn't ever get off the field.

True or false, Baker had two chances at the end of regulation and in OT to win the game. What happened?

Its not a vendetta, its tired of watching our defense shite themselves in every big game and big moment, and never being able to close out a game.
