I’ll give you credit for that prediction. Baker had all offseason and couple games into the season to prep for Chambliss and we still lost.

We played a lot of zone to keep him from running wild (which he did a LOT more of last season) and to contain Lacy. They had few to no designed QB runs and only a couple of scrambles. He passed us to death, if you recall. And outside of the last drive, we did adjust and contained him in the 2nd half. Baker’s mistake was going soft on their last drive.

7 points were on the defense and that was 1 busted assignment to start things off

Yep a busted assignment is still the defenses fault, thanks.

The last 7 points was because the zebras swallowed their whistles for 6 seconds as the play was clearly done.

They still drove all the way down the field on our defense to the 1 yard line. That was a 15 play 75 yard drive that took up the last 6 mins of the half. Imagine if we were able to get a stop and our offense put more points up before half? But nope

The offense had every chance to put the game away as wel

The defense had two chances to end the game, in regulation and in OT. shite the bed both times.

Just as I predicted. We destroyed State and Auburn. And our defense, technically, is top 10 by most metrics. But do not forget. Blake Baker is 100% capable of losing this game for us just as he did many times before. This needs to be front of mind for everyone. Do not come running to the scoreboard thread when we can’t get off the field on 3rd down and their QB is scrambling all over us.

Baker has to strike the right balance between man and zone and stay aggressive enough in zone that their QB can’t just sit and read.

But we’ve faced mobile QBs this year and the only big play we’ve given up all season was Brown’s one long TD run. And we beat his arse into the ground the rest of the game. And as I have said before, this isn’t some great scheme adjustment or change by Baker. It’s better fricking players. Period.

Keys is a big downgrade from Weeks, but we don’t have a clown car Safety room and Penn at MLB like 24. We don’t have an average Safety room, DEs who fail to set the edge in the run game, and West Weeks and a lost Perkins out there like last year. The DL has held up much better, the LBs are solid, and the Safety group is top 4 in the SEC even with Spears out. The defense is better because we have SEC-talent across the defense now.

Baker special. Dominate lesser talent. Get exposed bs equal or better talent. When people show you who they are, believe them.

And people have to understand a good defense in modern era is still going to give up yards and points. Modern offenses and the rules make it impossible to completely shut down almost anybody and certainly not other SEC teams. Kirby Smart is the gold standard of defense and look what Brown did to him.

You’ve forgotten already. Incredible. He’s so good at making people forget.

You are so clearly hoping LSU loses so you can come on here and crow about how right you were. What an insufferable douche you are.

Why are you even here?

You’d think that the head coach who was responsible for Chambliss’ development would know that sitting back in a soft arse defense would lead to getting picked apart.

They ran Chambliss a lot more last season under Kiffin than they are this year. He didn’t start making designed runs until they were down at UT and when it was close in the first half last week vs Auburn.

The softer, keep everything in front approach was also to contain Lacy, who was healthy when the game started. But they went with a pass-heavy game plan even before he went down. But I’m sure he was also a factor in that pre-game decision.

If the Bama game is close and Baker's defense needs to stop Bama for LSU to win, I hope Baker doesn't repeat the "prevent" defense that let Old Miss and Kentucky cut through those offenses like soft butter to beat us. I blame Baker for not trusting his excellent defensive players to build a defensive strategy that gives them a chance to win.

Now this is a reasonable concern and complaint with Baker this season, based on facts and not feelings.

Nah, the TD allowed before half of that game was straight up inexcusable.

True. But why did it happen? Jimcoily is why. If Spears doesn’t go down earlier in the half. I would bet you a cool $100 that drive ends in the FG and not a TD.

Baker did make a mistake here. He should have done what we’ve been doing since- move Benefield and play Thomas in his previous spot. I’m pretty sure they did that in the 2nd half after that TD. But not seeing that Jimcoily wasn’t ready for the role in advance is his fault.

The drive was bad but Baker literally had the perfect call for that post route. We have a middle field safety sitting perfectly to defend that and he has bad eyes and loses his nearest threat. Spears likely picks that ball off. There is a reason our coaches have made change at that position.

I completely agree. That’s why the havoc rate is very important. If good offenses will typically make more plays, getting pressure on a QB that forces sacks and turnovers that in turn kill drives and swing momentum are hugely important.

We have greatly improved in sacks this season thanks to better talent up front, but the one major weakness of the defense to this point has been not forcing enough turnovers. If that improves with the offense also gaining momentum, that takes this team to a different level.

Wrong as usual. We lost cause we didn't attempt to get 1 damn yard. 1 yard and game was over.

I like how so many morons forget how absolutely awful we have been since the 2019 season on defense. Baker has improved this defense every year he has been here regardless of the teams we played. Also, up until the final drive vs Kentucky, they had only put up 157 yards passing on 28 pass attempts and 13 points. His final drive defense and OT defense was atrocious, but we literally wouldn't have gotten there if;

1. LEAVITT NEVER DID THE DUMB HOP FUMBLE
2. WE WENT FOR IT ON 4TH AND 1

We turned the ball over twice and gave up a punt return TD. On defense they shouldn't have even gotten the damn first sneak TD because the guy was stopped. That defense played elite until the final drive, but again, it should have never gotten to that point.

It feels like the whole Baker can't stop mobile qb's is being repeated in the hopes it happens again. This defense has been solid against mobile QB's this year and people act like we're the only team who can't stop these guys.
