re: I don't understand this narrative that Ole Miss is some Little Sisters of the Poor program

The commitment Ole Miss has to baseball isn't anything new, but most of the posters were unaware until the last couple of days.
I've been to quite a few games at Ole Miss with some friends, dating back to their Super Regional against Texas in 2005. The atmosphere and passion of their fans was equal to anything we ever had at the old Box, and superior to anything at the new Box. It's still better.
Other than history, LSU doesn't tower over Ole Miss in any way when it comes to baseball. Been that way for a long time, but most of our fans haven't had a clue until the last week.

Where do you think they rank as a program in the SEC
There’s not much of a difference between the top 7 or 8 programs currently. They can all compete for and win titles. A couple in that group have better history or fan support but half the league has the infrastructure and talent base to win multiple titles over the next few years. The difference between the 3rd and 7th best program in the SEC is basically nonexistent. Acting like Ole Miss is some bottom of the barrel baseball program is just retarded. With the talent and support Bianco has had there he’s the only one to blame if you truly believe they’re some shite program that’s miles behind LSU.

Yeah I’ve found it bizarre for many years now that an lsu fan could watch a big game at Swayze and suggest LSU has a better atmosphere.
Personally I don’t think their grandstand fans cheer anymore than ours but LSU’s lack of a student section identity has been an issue

It makes some Ranters feel good to pretend they are above others.

Ranked 4th in spending. Bianco can’t even buy his way into Omaha. Why in the F do we want that loser here? bring me Vitello or bring me nothing at all. Time to start winning nattys again.
If you softies don’t like it, ULL is 50 miles down the road from BR.

Ole miss has a better atmosphere fan wise than LSU when it comes to their baseball crowds. A lot of LSU baseball fans are really delusional to think otherwise.

Their atmosphere is better. Stadium is probably a wash.

Just watching on TV over the years, their home crowd is definitely more electric. It's actually quite impressive.
Ole Miss is a very solid SEC baseball program. Their coach isn't good when it matters most. We don't need that.
However, LSU definitely still travels the best of all college baseball.

Winning solves those issues. Plus with the Box upgraded.

Our next coach should have at least 2 NCs on their resume and at least 5 CWS appearances. Vitello does not have this.

Problem is those coaches aren’t available for hire or like with Casey come with too many problems.

I think this is going overboard but I'd rather the unknown potential of some of the other guys versus Bianco and his known ceiling.
It's kind of similar to Orgeron replacing Scott Linehan and Bo Pelini with the unknown potential of Jake Peetz and Daronte Jones.

Lol compare Florida or LSU to whoever you think is the 6th & 7th best team
Y’all keep trying to lump these together but the tiers are quite drastic

But he hasn't done anything with it. That's my point.
And LSU won't give him some kind of secret potion that suddenly makes him a great postseason coach.
This. Maybe if we were mizzou or Kentucky and we needed a coach to bring us to the table, Bianco has a background of doing just that. His problem is not being able to take an established team past the finish line.

Vandy, Arky, State, Florida are in the top Tier. State just got there thanks to their performance the last 5 years. They made the jump. Going to Omaha 3 years in a row is impressive.
Tennessee, Ole Miss, LSU, USCe are in the next tier. Tennessee is on the rise obviously.
UGA, Kentucky, Bama, Auburn, A&M make up the next one. Programs that are nearly always fighting for a bubble spot but may have a good year or a down year.
Missouri is their own tier at the bottom.

I, for the most part , agree with those tiers.i may have vandy in their own top tier though.

I mean however you want to list them. LSU’s attracting kids & thsts my gauge, but whatever you want it to be, there is clear separation.
People read these national rankings and think 1 & 10 are close and they aren’t. shite, 5 & 10 aren’t all that close. The list are littered with SEC teams in a sport that is regional to begin with. It’s a dog eat dog thing.

You "fired" Mainieri not because he was bad. But because he wasn't good ENOUGH. That's fine. The program has high expectations and lofty goals. But then to replace him, probably at a high price, with a guy who, as a direct competitor, hasn't been as successful as the guy you just ran off makes no sense if the purpose of pushing Mainieiri out was to get better.
Given the choice, I agree. I'd rather pay a bit less for the potential of the younger HC rather than get the guy who all past history suggest will, at best, keep you at the current status quo. The status quo that wasn't good enough to keep the coach you had.
All told, this reminds me of the 2011 basketball search. Other names popped up, but there was a STRONG push from former players/alumni to hire a guy who but for his past affiliation with LSU would have never be discussed as a potential candidate...let alone the hire.

For every 3 or 4 kids like Crews & Morgan, ole miss might get one of those type of kids.
Imagine being a kid in the south. And even with all things equal, as you believe it to be, why are kids going to pick Ole Miss over the other 6 SEC teams in front of them
You aren’t getting top tier kids from Florida or Texas or even LA. Miss St is the premier baseball school in the state, and USM ain’t half bad.
So their budgets are close, so frickin what lol. Who is picking ole miss over those schools. And the only reason they’d even be considered is that Bianco has propped that program up.
