No one is writing the team off. We are writing Coach Jones off.

As a fan, you must have watched a lot of games over the last few seasons. Do you need to see more of Jones to know he isn't a good coach?

You know he is a bad coach. You are just hoping that he figures it out in year 20 of his coaching career. That's not a fan. That's an idiot.

Hard to see how you can write Jones off next season and not the team. They kind of go together you know. So what do you want me to do? Root for the team to lose so Jones will be fired for sure? I'm a basketball fan. I love the game. I like getting excited at the start of every season even if there is no evidence that it will be a success. So sue me. I'm 68 I can't afford to take a season off and wait for glory days that may or may not come with a different coach.

Nowhere in my post did I defend CJJ as a good coach. Are the players he recruited for next year any good? Can he somehow get them to play together and hustle on defense? You never know how a season turns out until you actually get out on the court. I know, I have seen a lot of them. If it turns out to be another disaster, I already said I would be making angry, critical posts. But wouldn't it be fun to win some games and not have to do that?

And who are these great former LSU coaches you compare him against to label him a bad coach? The only one I can think of is Dale Brown and that was only a seven or eight year stretch in the middle of his career. And there are plenty of people on here who slam Dale repeatedly.

When we change the coach, as I think we probably will, who can we bring in that will want to coach here? How do they convince basketball talent to flock to Baton Rouge? I know just throw money at it right? Not nearly as easy as you guys think. Calipari walked into one of the most prestigious basketball programs that goes back more than 50 years It's the number one sport there. The alumini and fans go crazy over it. We will never be that.

Everybody so quick to credit his recruiting. Anyone giving him credit for Darcy Malone, Elbert Robinson, Aaron Epps, Odo, Gray & Bridgewater?

Oh, definitely. He has given schollies to a lot of kids that look like they may never be consistent significant contributors.

But he has IMHO gotten enough to do better than his has in 3 of his 4 years here. That's my take on it.

No LSU fan is expecting LSU to be a Kentucky, Duke, NC etc., but we do expect a team that can make the tourney a lot more than we have, and actually win a tourney game sometimes..Johnny has failed miserably at this, and now going into his 5th season there are some obvious recruiting failures.

Even if (big if) Victor improves on his fouling, he's still not a real good defender down low. We'll also have to count big-time on a juco guy as our only other legit "big" option. Johnny will be having to play 4 smalls a lot next season. LSU will get eaten alive down low.

I don't ever pull for them to lose, but I just can't see any success next year because of the teams talent level, but mostly because of the poor coaching.

Also, I can't believe that Johnny stooped so low the other day when he pulled out the Trent Johnson card out as an excuse. That was a desperate chicken shite move by Johnny.

Exactly how I feel too! CJJ is a former LSU player so he should bleed purple and gold more than most of us, die-hard LSU fans. I really hope CJJ will not bring down the program to the level where no legit talents want to play for the Tigers.

What do you mean "if" his team is horrible? He completely wasted this years team. What do you think he'll do when he has a team full of players that he absolutely has to coach them to make them better?

I agree Skillet. That seemed out of character for CJJ and it was very disappointing for me to read. He frankly was left a better situation that the one Dale, Press, Brady, Harry Rabenhorst and whatever other coach you want to throw out there yet he played that card. Surprised me.

I love the team too. Which is why I realize that nearly every year with Jones is a lost year.

He is one of the worst "in game" coaches I have ever seen. I can't comment on what he does in practice and prep, but it can't be that great either. So basically he is in the bottom 25% of basketball coaches ever. Worse than every LSU coach. The only thing he had over Trent was possibly recruiting.

Answering this part in a separate post...

We can bring in a lot of coaches. We brought in Musselman as an assistant. We have a lot of regional talent and a ton of coaches would love the opportunity as well as a huge jump in pay.

As another poster said, we don't expect Kentucky. Just a hard working team.

if Brady can get canned in-season less than 2 years removed from a Final Four, i don't see why johnny couldn't get 86'd less than a year from arguably the most disappointing year in program history.

I think we all want the same thing. A team we can be proud of that plays hard and together. But I am a realist about how much ultimate sustained success LSU basketball can have just as most of you say you are a realist about next season.

I don't want to be put in the position of defending CJJ because I have been very critical of him the same as you'll.But those of you who think that getting a new coach will solve all problems are not realistic.

I doubt Eric Musselman would ever want to coach here again and I know he is an intelligent, knowledgable coach who would get the most out of his players. But his record at Reno Nevada was 18-12 regular season. They played in the CBI tournament at the end of the year and won three more games ending up 21-12. A good record for a first year coach but not world beating.

He has almost no experience with college ball. Two seasons at Arizona State as an Assistant his first season and Associate coach his second. Then a year with us and last season with Reno. The first thing that comes to mind is can he recruit? That's the opposite side of the CJJ has had the players but can't coach them. Having a coach who is a good teacher, strategist etc. who can't recruit is just as bad if not worse. Remember Trent?

The most frustrating perhaps. Certainly the one that failed to live up to it's hype the most since Chris Jackson and Shaq were playing together.

But the most disappointing year? Not even close. How about the two consecutive years under Trent when we won a combined total of 5 conference games? CJJ had an SEC record of 12-8 this season and 19-14 overall.

That's good to know... considering you're incorrect on this topic it's best you stop posting about it.

His team was horrible this year. And his 3 best players are gone. What makes you think next year is gonna be any better?

Auburn and Bama both made coaching hires deemed solid. Surely the basketball programs and traditions at those schools are not any better than LSU.
