When it comes to conference realignment, there is no perfect scenario where all rivalries and traditions are maintained, every conference is geographically and competitively balanced, and all teams have a roughly equal shot at competing for a championship.

There are no perfect solutions, but my question is addressed towards LSU fans. Who do we want to see? Which teams do season ticket holders want to see?

The 16 team deal is strictly for the money. Fans have no voice. No one is going to ask us what would we like. If the money is big, it’s done deal and tradition and the fans are an after thought. We all know this and it’s why big games on Saturday night in BR are getting fewer and fewer.

I think I agree and Texas would have to get over themselves. Longhorn network needs to go!

The longhorn network doesn't seem to be an issue. Texas is looking at the deal because they'd make more money with the SEC than with the LHN. Meanwhile, ESPN which is losing money on the LHN would be most happy to ditch the LHN in order to have the longhorns in their coverage of the SEC.

As for the longhorn and sooner fans, I think the SEC schedule will give them a new level of respect and some humility (probably not enough though). Initially, they'll have so many tough games to prepare for that they're going to get popped by weaker teams they aren't getting up for. It's going to be a while before they get toughened up for the grind.

Frankly, I think rivalry with OU and UT are going to develop pretty quickly. We already some history with both. They're fans "holier than though" attitude is going to meet up with LSU's "we don't give a shite who you are" attitude and then it's game on.

It didn't take A&M and Mizzou that long to get adjusted. They'll get a huge boost in recruiting when they join the SEC and I think they'll get better immediately. Also SEC teams wont be as familiar with them as they are with each other.

I want a return to the 12 team SEC, ACC, Big 12 that existed prior to realignment with the PAC 12 adding BYU to replace Colorado and the Big 10 adding Notre Dame to replace Nebraska. I would then take the best teams from the group of 5 and old Big East and create 3 more 12 team conferences, and an 8 team playoff featuring the 8 conference champs seeded based on poll voting.

However, I’m not going to get that. Out of the three scenarios I see on the table (status quo, status quo with 9 conference games, 2 8 team divisions, and 4 pods), I think the status quo with 9 conference games is the best plan. That way, you play 6 division games, one permanent rival, and 1/3 of the other cross-divisional opponents annually. That way, every 6 years, you play every team in the SEC at least once home and at-home.

If we have to expand to 16, I favor a pod format with Ole Miss, Miss St, and Alabama in our pod. I would really miss our annual games against Florida and Auburn, but getting those extra games against Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma, and Georgia every other year would help soothe my concerns a lot. Granted, I really wouldn’t bat an eye at never playing Arkansas, Mizzou, Vandy, or South Carolina ever again. I feel like that system would make me really upset for about a year or two, but that I would quickly grow to love it and wonder how we ever got by without it.

The only question I have about the pod system is whether or not it is statistically possible that more than 2 teams could finish a season with an undefeated conference record.

The games I most look forward to annually are:
1. Alabama
2. Florida
3. Cross division game if it’s Georgia or Tennessee
4. Auburn
5. Ole Miss
6. A&M
7. Cross division game if it’s Kentucky
8. Miss St
9. Cross division game if it’s South Carolina or Mizzou
10. Arkansas
11. Cross division game if it’s Vandy

I’m willing to trade our annual game with A&M if it means resurrecting the UT vs A&M rivalry, maintaining the red river shootout, and eliminating the Golden Boot game half the time. I’m willing to cut back to only seeing Auburn half the time to get to see Georgia, Oklahoma, Texas, and Tennessee more often.

Not jazzed about losing the annual Florida game to see South Carolina, Kentucky, and Mizzou more often.

It will be much tougher for LSU to recruit out of Texas with both tamu and UTx fighting to hold guys in state to play in the sec.

Doesn't ESPN control and have rights to the Longhorn Network?

So if that is the case then the LHN shouldn't be an issue?

Having Texas in the SEC would actually benefit LSU in the long run, because it would expose fans in the state of Texas to the LSU program more often.

It's exactly why Oklahoma has long benefitted from playing UT every year in Dallas. The OU roster usually has dozens of Texas-born players.

Any one that believes this deal is not a totally done deal is a fool. ESPN told the SEC here is the deal. Like it or lump it.

As far as recruiting footprint goes, Texas kids basically look at LSU as in-state. The extra games will only embolden that.

It only becomes a problem if both Texas and A&M rise up and start to out recruit us. I don’t see that being a huge issue on a level playing field, let alone this situation we’re in where Texas is weaker and A&M is still overrated.

Just start your own league at this point. Play 11 games, your whole division, 4 from opposite division, where the following year you play the 4 teams you didn’t face from other division in year prior, 2 teams each division get in 4 team playoff.

They need to move the gumpland schools to the east if this unholy marriage occurs.

Yes, I concluded the same thing before I read your post.
It’s not perfect, but it allows everyone to play everyone else at least twice in four years and died by wipe out good, traditional SEC games that we have each season.

I would rather Not resurrect the South West Conference, being that we would be in the West.
