I’m not holding my breath about what is said by “ a high-ranking college official with knowledge of the situation”.

Unnamed sources will and do say anything. At best, this is a trial balloon just to gauge reactions.

between the possibility of this and the NIL, college sports is about to head down the shitter, imo

Yeah, don't think it will exist in 10 years. Its basically semi pro, the academic side is just smoke and mirrors.

I'm in TX and this was all over the news yesterday, not sure what might be driving it, UT and OU are already big fish in a little pond and neither lack for $, in the SEC they'd be, at least Texas, run of the mill punching bags and wouldn't see the bowl/playoff opportunities that they currently do

If anything comes from this and we get in a pod of 4, ole miss would mist likely be one. I would request that game be played on halloween if i was in charge. Might be the only thing we get out of this. Lose auburn bama and florida games every year

I think I agree and Texas would have to get over themselves. Longhorn network needs to go!

Get over themselves? You don’t know many horns, do you. You might as well tell them to stop breathing.

I am all in for UT & OU joining!
We would play them instead of Auburn & Bama. After 2011, the fact that we beat Bama, win the SEC and STILL had to play them in the championship left a nasty taste in my mouth! Let Georgia & Florida play Bama in the East. Of course, the Aggies would throw a fit and may re-join the Big 12.

I still haven't adjusted to these Aggie Dorks, and now I may have to deal with the Tea Sippers?

Uggh.

Tend to agree. They will try to control the conference.

This is a lot harder to do without a conference mostly made of Texas schools.

Bama, AU, GA, FL, and LSU have no problem banding together telling them to stay in their lane.

I’m an LSU fan, so naturally I would like LSU to win the SEC as often as possible.

Pure math and probabilities would result in LSU winning the SEC less often with OU and Texas in the conference. That’s true for all SEC teams, not just LSU.

Does that mean we would never win the SEC?… Of course not, we are and always will be a major player in this conference and nationally. But adding OU and Texas would certainly add more hurdles for us and all other SEC teams that I personally don’t want.

I’m all for having an annual “power” non-conference game against Texas or OU or Michigan or a comparable marquee program, but I definitely don’t want any of those programs in our league benefitting from the exposure and stature that the SEC currently enjoys.

I say NO. We gave TX, OU, FL State and Miami the same opportunity several years ago and they all said NO. They had their chance - kick em to the curb.

And so the SEC has all the power. Bring them in on your terms. The NCAA needs to go away and this is a step to make that a reality.

If the conference expands and Bama goes East it would be possible to play them three times in one season.

A lot has changed since then. People can’t keep pointing to the past as their reason to why this won’t work. UT has a new AD. A coach who came from the SEC. everyone benefits here.

How will LSU fans benefit?
Will we see better games?
Will the homer schedule improve?
How does LSU making more money trickle down to the fans?

People do need to get on board with this type of stuff. Might not be ou and Texas but the tidal wave is comin. Can’t look backwards or we’ll get left behind.

Sec expanded and was the first conference with a title game. Expanded again to stay ahead of the curve. Why would we not expand again and establish our dominance? There’s no going back…
