I'm a big fan of his too, he's made me a believer in him. This guy has great ball skills, body control and his best attribute is route running.

No doubt. Herbie calls it like it is.

Herbie isn't biased. He just reacts to whatever happens lately, as he should. He's gone to bat for us before in years where we turned out terrible (Brandon Harris comes to mind). I don't care what he thinks but I don't see him as an emotional commentator. Just observes and comments.

Michael Thomas isn’t a burner. Wouldn’t call him slow as dog shite. But speed isn’t everything.

If Jets runs a 4.88, Caden Sterns runs a 5.20.

JJ is a great kid and a bigtime receiver. I am glad he is getting some pub.

No, no you can’t

Yeah, I guess almost every WR in the Hall of Fame was fast. Chris Carter was apparently clocked at 4.6 at some point (not slow as "dogshit", but slow for a WR considering what they usually clock in at). I think Jerry Rice said he once ran a really slow 40-time (like 4.9) because he didn't really know how to run the 40 and people always use that time when referring to his speed. But he always looked like the smoothest runner to me who covered a lot of ground as soon as he had the ball.

Whatever JJ's 40-time is, he kills it on the field and I don't see people running him down.

Jerry rice was significantly slower that John Taylor.

Look how that turned out.

Route running, route running, route running.

The comment was you can be slow as dogshit and be a HOF WR. That’s just false. Avg or below average sure but they at least need to be in the ballpark speed wise.

It makes me chuckle when people get caught up in this "upside" shite and this combine bullshite. Watch film, can the guy make plays, does he know the game, his position and his overall understanding of his side of the ball along with the other side of the ball? You've got you a player. Colston with the saints was slow but he had a damn good career and there are plenty all throughout the history of sports. Larry Bird, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Jerry Rice, Jerome Bettis (was a beast but was slow), I can go on and on with a list. Does the speed and the immeasurables give you an advantage, yes, if you have a good understanding of the game.

Makes you trust the coaches evaluation when they offer 3 star kids over bigger names.

That's true every except the Rant. Whenever a 3* is offered by the LSU staff, most on the Rant start bemoaning that we've offered such a low ranked player. You've got a trustful attitude, but I'll bet not many here were as trusting when Justin was offered. Regardless of his rating as a recruit, he's becoming an excellent receiver.

That’s a myth. Jerry was fast.

He was neither fast nor slow. Jerry Rice ran a 4.6. But Anquan Boldin and Jarvis Landry aren't very fast either. Nor Michael Irvin. Be able to get open by understanding defenses and having good hands is more important than straight speed on any level

My theory is that he was able to shift his on-air persona once he became a game announcer. ESPN wants to its show commentators to take positions to get attention. I’ve noticed a difference in how he acts and presents information since he became one of their big-game commentators.

2 series into the Texas game, he was indicating that UT's CBs couldn't cover LSU's WRs
