As a TB Alum I'm been deeply embarrassed of the sound and halftime marching performance. Opposimg SEC bands have smelled blood in the water.
As a TB and LSU alum, please fix your spelling and grammar. Both are deplorable.

The entire GBFTL operation needs to be moved to the Athletic Deapartment and totally overhauled with nothing but experienced College Marching Band and Drum Corps professionals.
Semjase and some other TB Alums have been talking with the LSUAD and other Power Broker People about this for several years now.
We deserve to have a "Marching Band Nick Saban" running the program away from any and all Talley-Queen-LSU School of Music interference.
Start and end the search with Ken Bodiford of Jacksonville State! (But, I'd be OK with Louisiana Longhorn's choice of current Auburn Band Director and LSU Boy Dr. Corey Spurlin)

All Tiger Bands Alums need to get involved in this and make sure that a "Marching Band Nick Saban/Brian Kelly" type is hired.
No more promoting the unqualified "Assistant" BS!

What do you mean by “Progressive/Marxist?” I’m outside of yalls argument, and agree that tigerband hasn’t been up to snuff. Did I miss something they’ve said or done?

I have nothing against the man personally, but he was way underqualified to be director of a major college marching band. That said, I have exactly zero confidence that LSU will hire a replacement who's any better unless the athletic department gets involved.

This. He's a nice guy. I like him, personally. But I don't think he was qualified.
The depth of bands and the SoM at LSU look down on marching band, in general. When Frank was Director of Bands, things were different. He had the respect of the SoM and he was in charge of TGBFTL. Although I don't think it was his favorite thing, he had a great respect for tradition and wanted that group to continue representing the university in that mold. I always got the sense that Linda felt the same way. Same with Roy, but he wasn't all that much better than DR Jones in terms of qualifications.
The SoM simply views TGBFTL as a necessary evil and a pawn. There's a snobbish attitude toward marching band amongst most music majors and music educators at that level. And I know this because I was part of that college while at LSU. That is why the marching band should be under the athletic dept, not the SoM.

This was the case when I was a freshman in 1972 with Bill Swor as band director. We were under the athletic department at the time, and had to battle them for any funding, as in getting replacement uniforms for the 20 year old threads we were wearing.
As for the School of Music, they always felt they were superior to Tiger Band. Fortunately, we didn't have to deal with them in most cases.

Because of Swor and Wickes, Tiger Band has the prominence to raise its own funds, now. That's how they built the new band hall. Now, they aren't fully capable of funding themselves, but they are in a much better position than they were in 1970. I think being g under the athletic department , simply to keep their funds away from the SoM is the best option.

I use to always listen to the band at halftime until last season when they had a completely woke Title IX tribute and when they played the black national anthem. Now I enjoy stretching my legs and getting a hot dog. I’m tired of everything being made political. Just play music to entertain the fans without some social agenda. Hopefully the next band director can return the Golden Band to normalcy.

LSU recently hired a new Dean at the College of Music & Dramatic Arts who’s an LSU alumnus and former member of TGBFTL under Frank Wickes.
This can’t be a bad thing right?

Lau graduated summa cum laude from LSU with a bachelor’s degree in music and was a member of The Golden Band from Tigerland. Originally from Gainesville, Florida, Lau was recruited to LSU by former Director of Bands Frank Wickes. Both of Lau’s high school band directors – who had themselves been students of Wickes’ – also encouraged him to attend LSU. As a Tiger, Lau was a recipient of the University Chancellor’s Honors Scholarship and the Louisiana Music Activities Award.

The decline of the band has been pretty insane.
It needs a complete overhaul.

The LSU marching band sucks and is the worst in the entire SEC.
Good to hear someone new is coming in to change everything (hopefully).
