LSU did everything they could to help him out but he just couldn’t put it together sadly. He did look like a phenom freshman year though.

Pavia put him in an absolute blender last season

I am not going to bash him like most folks here. However:

He doesn’t have a position

He’s a bit of a one trick pony (acceleration and burst)

He doesn’t have great cover skills

He never developed a pass rush move

He definitely did not play with full effort at certain times

Add all that up and you’ve are looking at a 6-7 round pick or UFA. As others have said, he should have played one more year in college if he could. Would have made more money.

Someone mentioned in another thread that the Arkansas team that he dominated that game was arguably one of the worst SEC teams in recent memory. Like historically bad.

Doesn’t matter.

The Nicholls State tight ends both rag dolled him the entire game.

Both of them.

Tight ends. Not tackles.

He’s just not a player that has proven to be extremely valuable at one position and I think that is what is killing him. He’s a specialist and there isn’t a tremendous amount of value to NFL teams in that.

2022 wasn't as bad as 2023

But KJ Jefferson (one of the league's genuinely underappreciated studs) was injured for our game. That was their backup QB's first and only college start. Who's to say he even ends up with a sack if KJ is under center

It’s not really about not having a position - it’s more of the fact that he has zero football instincts and IQ and he jogs on 50 percent of the plays.

Yeah, in 2022 when he was named National Player of the Week, that Arkansas team finished at 7-6 and won their bowl. Even in 2023 they were very competitive most of the time. They had 5 losses by 7 or less including Bama, LSU and Ole Miss.

He’s an absolute steal in the 5th round. I’m betting he’ll be fired up to prove every expert wrong.

but he just doesn’t seem to play hard every play.

If we see it as fans, no doubt the guys that rely on player performance for their paycheck sees it.

You’ll likely be wrong. If work ethic and drive isn’t ingrained by 2nd year college it never happens.

Yall always overrated Perkins.

He took way too many plays off. When you are getting picked on the 3rd day, heart and mind matters.

If only he was fired up against Diego Pavia and Marcel Reed

He's cooked on the ethic front

It’s strange to me because he looked great in the opener vs Clemson and was whipping their OT that went 1st round. Then after that game besides Arkansas of course it felt like he just gave up and mailed it in. Very odd

He was ultra elite as a pass rush specialist as a True Freshman against Arkansas, Ole Miss, and Alabama. He single handedly beat the Razorbacks with an all time performance.

He was schemed out of relevance thereafter and isn’t a good enough football player in any other way to be successful at the next level.

I consider myself a Perkins realist and felt like house took a lot of unnecessary crap for being too dumb to know how to use Perkins.

With that said I don’t think ANYONE would have predicted he’d still be available on the verge of the 6th round after his freshman year which is what the thread was about

What kind of speed does he have? Too big for strong safety?
