Schools can't hold satellite camps at off campus locations but there's nothing wrong with them "co-hosting" a camp at another school. The rule was to prevent a school like Michigan from doing something like renting the Superdome and running a camp.

Semi- correct here is the actual reason why its illegal.

quote:

Those camps must take place on a school’s campus or in facilities regularly used by the school for practice or competition.

This camp was occurring at a high school. But none of the other universities regularly practice there or have facilities there. Thus illegal.

Which Im still not even sure how them using Memorial Stadium fits this ruling but whatever.

I thought there was an issue with them using high school fields or the camp being involved with high schools somehow. I think that's what he was referring to.

Eta - what more beer please said. beat me and better described it.

Ah I didn't realize it wasn't being held on Southeastern's campus.

This one was first going to be held at Memorial Stadium in BR

I think DIII schools get a pass.

Again sort of correct. Belhaven gets a pass, but FBS schools do not.

quote:

The new rules also prohibit FBS schools from attending and coaching at showcase events, which are camps run by a third party and give college coaches from multiple programs the opportunity to evaluate and scout hundreds of athletes from a single area at one time.

The state of Oregon was set to host its first major showcase in early June, the "2016 NW Collegiate Showcase," with coaches from Boise State, BYU, Cal, Colorado, Hawaii, Oregon State, UCLA and Utah confirming attendance.

Instead, it appears the event is allowed to go on with only FCS, Division II and NAIA schools.

Just one link on the ruling

LSU had a camp last week with every school from the state there. Also a joint camp with Tulane.

How is it hurting the lesser talented players by cancelling this camp?

Pretty sure those guys got the chance to show coaches from la tech, Tulane, UL-L, etc what they can do at LSU's camp last week.

Kudos to Hal ..... spoken like the true loser he is. Sonofabitch had his chance at Kentucky and fricked it. Been downhill ever since.

This holier-than-thou bitching about satellite camps makes me feel like I'm in a twilight zone.

Not only Mumme, but Yahoo Sports had an article suggesting O is being petty because he is afraid of Herman, and Deadspin even said O should "just stop being a dick".

Since when is protecting your own self-interest a problem in the world of college football?

That isnt an NCAA violation. In fact, the NCAA left a loophole when they stopped all this bs about satellite camps. That's why Division 3 Bellhaven College is involved. The NCAA didn't block that level of football from hosting these events so Texas is glomming on to Bellhaven.

Congrats to Hal Mumme for getting a job at the D3 glorified high school level. I understand Mumme cost Belhaven around $5,000 for this ill fated event. Ha-ha-ha!!!

Hal mentioned Cornell in an interview. Pretty sure Coach O isn't trying to stop Cornell from poaching a 2 star that could get into Cornell. However, dang right he's paranoid. It's his job as head coach to be paranoid talent is gonna get stolen. This is a non issue.

I get what Mumme is saying but in today's era, if you're good, word gets out. Recruiting has never been at the forefront as it is today.

Anybody with a camera and an internet connection can essentially create a highlight reel and post it on Hudl.

I find Mumme to be out of the same pool of scum as Curley Hallman. Eventually an embarrassment everywhere they have been. Before long Mumme will be back at the HS level, and he'll find a way to frick that up too. The guy just can't help himself.
