Yep, hughes looked better at the plate this weekend than dugas. This isnt really a surprise, the scrimmage lineup was similar to this on occasion. Hope it works, but i fear for the left side of the infield.

Id say the move in center is to get hampton at bats, and gio once again running a terrible route to that ball in center definitely didnt help

Hughes’s defense probably had more to do with this decision than his offense. He had two errors and one big mental error.

Surprised it happened this soon knowing Mainieri

Huh? Paul is like one of the biggest lineup tinkerers in college baseball.

but I'd like to see where this goes.

If he was doing this for a weekend, it would be a bigger deal.

Gavin has more potential at the plate than Hal but once Zack comes back look for him to have an infield spot as well. There is only so much room.

Two years ago when Josh Smith, the starting shortstop goes down, you plug in the backup shortstop aka Hal Hughes. Smith never recovered that season. I don’t think Mainieri is forcing the square peg in the round hole like y’all think he is.

This is the kind of logical thinking that isn't tolerated on the rant...

Reality is, he was the backup SS in 2018 and took over when Smith got hurt.

Then in 19, it made more sense to play Smith at 3B, and we didn't have much else behind Hughes, so he went back to SS.

Now, we have options at SS. Out of respect, CPM gave him the starting gig this weekend, but these other guys were always going to get a shot. Mid-week is a great time to do that.

After any of those 3 struggle though, the bitching will return.

Also if they don't struggle.

Gonna be interesting to see how Hampton plays...his batting numbers were real bad in spring

And still 10000X the hitter Hal is.

One thing I like about Mainieri is he plays several/all players early in the season to see how they perform.

Stephenson had really bad bat his first year. If I got this right didn’t he hit under 200 . A good glove up the middle is important. You forget kid was top 10 MLB pick before he talked about money it would take to get him to skip college experience.

I don't know, but I am glad that we have an Eleck again. It's been a couple of years.

Like most I have been critical of Hughes but you have to make a move. Manure knows that with Woody in place he can no longer just be ok. He needs to win and get to Omaha. Sucks to bench any kid but this is not Patty Cake. This is Big Time College Baseball and it is win or your program dies in the Shark Tank known as the SEC!

If you guys would watch the interviews, this was already planned. You guys ride every piece of news like it’s meaningful. He was already planning to start Hampton this week regardless of Hal’s performance.

PM was pissed when no one covered 2nd on steal attempt in Game 2 Sat
I think he's seen enough of Hal and can't stomach another full season with him in the lineup

I think what you pointed to is an important distinction to note that Hughes' talent isn't necessarily what took him out of the lineup. It's that in the field he played with his head up his arse.
