I'm from Baton Rouge and went to LSU. I met my wife who is from this area on a fishing/backpacking trip in Highlands. That was that and I've been here since 2012.
That’s awesome.
I was shocked to learn how many good looking women there was in east TN/ west NC. As a teenager the stereotype was hillbilly rough arse looking moonshine drinking girls was all there is there. There are are those too but there were many outstanding looking gals.
After I had made a good bit of away games and spending times as a young adult in the areas of schools In the SEC, I always ranked Ole Miss, Tennessee, UGA, BAMA as the schools with the best looking girls.
I actually dated, well fooled around with girl from Maryville, TN the summer right after high school graduation for 8 or 9 months. This was early 2000s. This chick was gorgeous. We used to see each other at least once a month, usually twice a month though. I’d sometimes hall arse up there to spend 3 days and 2 nights and hall arse back home or meet in north Alabama stay a night or 2 and she came down here a couple times.

download Tinder (or gindr if thats your thing).
TD is all the social media I do. No Twitter, Facebook or Instagram. I used to be on LinkedIn but it started evolving into Facebookesque so I shut it down.
I’ve had a couple married friends of mine tell me I was insane for not using Tinder considering I’m widowed and busted up with a younger lady several months ago I was dating for almost a year. I worry about too much personal information being shared and it somehow affecting my place of business.

I hear it’s getting bad, especially Asheville. These assholes need to either stay in their yankee states or change the way they vote, which contributed to their original hometowns turning to shite.
Not to get all personal but how’d you end up where you’re at? You originally from Louisiana or are you just a NC baw who pulls for LSU?

Damn. Must be nice. That’s pretty country. We used to go to Gatlinburg a good bit especially as kids. Dad used drive the long way back home through NC. We also whitewater raft a handful of times and don’t remember much only that it was pretty.
That’s about the only times I’ve been in NC other than catching connecting flights in Charlotte

There are some monsters, no doubt. Bass as well. Head west to where I live and the trout fishing is fantastic.
I've already said too much about NC
It really does look like a state fun to fish.
I haven’t fly fished in probably 6 years when I was in Colorado hunting. How far west are you, really close to TN border? I’d definitely enjoy trout fishing. What y’all mostly catch, Brook, Rainbows and browns?

This post started out like hell yeah, baw, and then ended terribly. Sorry for your losses.
It could always be worse. I used to hate frickers who used to say that but it’s true. I’ve lost a lot but have been blessed. I feel very fortunate right now. I know people who’ve never struggled with their careers or family issues their entire adult life but this pandemic bull shite has wrecked their lives at the moment. Good hardworking people. It’s heartbreaking.

Bird hunting is excellent. Everything from quail to pheasant to duck. Fishing is very good too. I would say take the job. With your lifestyle, I highly doubt you will be disappointed.
Would love to wreck some birds.
I’ve always heard the saltwater fishing is pretty good there. For some reason the redfish grow freakishly large. Not the numbers we have but they have some big ones. I want to say the world record Redfish came from North Carolina.
ETA: World Record Red did come from North Carolina. 94.2lbs. That’s 31# heavier than Louisiana record. Geez. NC and Delaware are only 2 states with bigger record weighing red than Louisiana. They don’t have our numbers like I mentioned but I’m shocked to see how big they are.

Do you hunt? Some excellent hunting not far from there at Anderson Creek Hunting Preserve. I bought a German Shorthair from them a few years ago and have gone back to hunt him there once a year.
shite yea I hunt and would love to check that out. Im an avid saltwater fisherman and hunter.
In fact those are 2 of the reasons that makes me hesitant to leave.
We have a 1600 acre place in Tensas between my brothers and I. It was 800 acres that we owned that was passed down and just last year we coaxed my uncle to sell his 800 because he never used and got a great price. I know they probably got some decent hunting there in NC but hard for me to imagine it’s as good as where we hunt now but still would love to try that area. I’ve hunted West, Midwest but never East.
As far as saltwater fishing we have a camp in Grand Isle. From April to September we’re balls to the wall saltwater fishing with 1 or 2 freshwater trips mixed in.
Those are the main reasons I don’t want to leave Louisiana, along with being far away from family, especially mom. She’s getting older. Like most of you said it’s only 8-12 months so not long.
I’m 37 years old, lost wife nearly 8 years ago now. Around same time dad passed away. I’ve had cancer as well but I’ve done good the last decade so being that far away from the doctors I’ve had for nearly 20 years doesn’t scare me as much as it once would. I do large industrial projects from LPG, plastics, pharma to infrastructure and things are a tad slow everywhere in our industry right now. May jump on it. I’m going to pray about.
ETA: as much as I hate our state, the fishing and hunting and family keep me here. I mean I literally almost hate everything about our state. Our fishing is second to none though on the continent. I wouldn’t live anywhere else permanently.

My company asked if I’d be interested in running a job there for 8-12 months beginning February 2021. I’d be making a little more salary wise but they will actually pay me time and a half for every hour I work after 50 hours each week. They’ll also being paying for a fully furnished rental house for me and the utilities while I’m there, I’ll also have a new work truck to travel to and from site. On top of that, they will also pay me per diem.
I’d return to my office in Baton Rouge November 2021- February 2022. It’s not mandatory I go. They just offered, meaning they really want me to run the project. They may make it mandatory but I highly doubt it.
This would start in February of 2021 and was just curious if anyone was familiar with the area. I don’t have kids so don’t have to worry about school and don’t have a wife.
TIA

We still play RBI Baseball and Mike Tyson’s. I’ve had to get a replacement for RBI and it was on eBay

Zacly one block from my office, they parade through our parking lot hourly. Geovani St mall shutting down has helped
but they still migrate south daily.
Never interested in moving 25-30 miles north to Ragley or Longville?

Is there a food plot that deer won’t step over to get to corn? I’ve had success with iron clay peas but they get ran through during bow season. Anything you baws have sustained success with in the South? Thanks!
Late for a soybean plot. Winter peas are the best. Just have to plant a mix that is heavy peas.
Do a brassica blend and add winter peas, cereal grains (oats) and some white clover.

Live or cut bream, dead smelly shrimp. If you have a cast net try to catch you some shad or buy from somewhere.

What baits? We had that awesome trip yesterday. Everything was all on a junebug or red bug finesse.

Well everything you got pictured there would have me firing off good turd pretty quick. Unfortunately I can’t do coffee in the mornings when I hunt or fish. Will be looking for anywhere to shite before the sun rises above the treetops
