LSU Salutes and Game Day have NEVER been on the Parade Ground(s) at the same time before. LSU officials ask for silence. All music and loud generators are asked to be turned off. These two cannot co-exist.

Yeah this is going to be a shitshow. They almost towed our trailer last year when there were no signs saying we couldn't park there.

Add gameday to no one knowing where you can park or when you set up and we are in for a wild one. I almost want my group to move off the parade ground just to save the trouble.

Yep - tailgaters on the side of us parked their trailer on the side of the Union because no parking is allowed on Tower Drive. It was gone on Saturday morning. We don't want your arms and your legs, just your TOWS.

What's the field close to the track stadium? A lot of people would have flag football practice there. Would that work or too far?

A buddy we tailgate with called up LSU Salutes yesterday to see what the deal was with parking, the ceremony, etc. We tailgate on the PG. Apparently, the head of LSU Salutes which puts it together was not even aware Gameday was coming to LSU. Let that sink in for a second.

How can this be? Its been all over Facebook and twitter and theadvocate and Nola.com. Not a single one of the salutes heard of this news?

Does the guy not check email?

Why is such a somber ceremony scheduled on the (easily known) LSU-Alabama game date?

From olewarskule.com - "By resolution of the LSU Board of Supervisors in March of 1998, LSU Salutes was established as an official University observance. It occurs each November on the Saturday of a home football game which falls nearest to Veterans Day. The event also recognizes and honors POWs, MIAs, and Congressional Medal of Honor recipients."

The resolution specifically states it will be on the same day as a home football game.

Also, it seems that this issue has been discussed on the rant in 2008, 2010, 2012.

We all must have very short memories.

I slept on the parade ground for 2012 and woke up to the cannon blasts. Also tailgate in that same area.

That quote is directly off of LSUsports.net and those two most certainly co-existed that day.

Gameday was over on the Old Front 9 in 2008. The last year that Salutes conflicted with a Gameday set.

In 2012 LSU had a home game vs. MSU on Nov. 10...which was when Salutes was held given it was the closest home game to Veteran's Day.

If the guy who started it is still organizing it, he's a retired LSU employee that doesn't follow athletics to that extent.

I can't wait for LSU Salutes to make ESPN be quiet during the ceremony.

That's a reserved parking lot. Brother in law parks there.

How can the powers to be be so clueless?

Well, to be fair, since they are not yet the powers that be, they can't reasonably be expected to be worried about it.

I just noticed one of the linked threads for Salutes in 2010 was mine complaining about it...that was the first year they went HAAM with the towing/parking and the parking enforcement staff was generally clueless.

To summarize. 2008 and 2016 are the only years where Gameday and Salutes have conflicted. In 2008 Gameday was relocated from the Parade Ground.

I really don't know the logistics of all this. How long is the Ceremony?

Would it be possible to go to commercial, Run a pre-recorded segment, ask for silence from the crowd, go back to commercial and come out of the final break with Ceremony ending? That way they could toss in a " hey gameday supports the troops" by showing the tail end of it

I have never been to parade grounds for this event so I have no idea.

LSU Salutes isn't going schedule the event around ESPN's commercial breaks

Salutes usually goes from about 9-10AM. They have some speakers, present colors, fire cannons.

I forgot which segment it was, but I could have sworn I heard them say on 104.5 yesterday that Game Day was going to be in the lot next to Walk-Ons.
