He does seem to be a good up and comer but I don't know if you can trust a first time head coach with a rebuild like LSU was facing.

That isn't Scott Woodward's MO anyway.

I do know he was contacted by LSU but was not interested in leaving.

I would’ve loved Tomlin as HC of my Fighting Tigers.

All that aside, BK is a great hire considering the candidate pool. And he has a track record of great DC hires…I expect the ship to be righted.

Honestly Matt Canada should’ve been a HC, turned a turd sandwich into something competitive at Maryland considering the HC was fired after the death of a kid.

Kelly has shown some real red flags so far, but he was the right hire. The program was in absolute freefall and he reversed trajectory.

Remember Norvel didn’t get it going until later in his tenure as FSU HC. He’s a good coach, but he would’ve never gotten that time to build here.

BTW, if we're being completely honest, I think he's a better coach than Saban.

2-3 VS Saban
3-4 VS Les Miles

Not really, he’s been in the NFL Coaching for 25 years, he’s not leaving. A few in BTR we throwing his name around. Much of the same with the other names tossed around.

Woody never let’s on, who he’s hiring, everything is close to the vest.

Woody interviewed Kelly back when he was hiring at UDub. Woody got Chris Petersen, another that was thought to be never leaving Boise. In 2014 Kelly was at ND.

He was 8-13 and very much on the hot seat at Florida State when the LSU job was open.

We are so obsessed with Bama that nobody seems to mention that UGA has surpassed Bama as the lead dog in the SEC. I live in Atlanta and for years there was grumbling that Kirby could recruit but wasn’t good at X’s and O’s, that he could not get the team over the hump, and then lo and behold he did in about year four. Give Kelly a chance. Stinks that now Texas and Oklahoma along with A&M will be buying a few recruits maybe we would have gotten in the past but we are going to climb that mountain again.

I see some posters here saying he'll never win, he's not the guy, etc. so I'm curious, who is the guy?

Dan Lanning or Matt Rhule

I know at least one Bama fan that will be livid if UGA wins the national championship this year and becomes the first three-peat champion. I'm betting he won't be alone, as much as they complain about not getting an NC in 1966 (and to a lesser degree, 1977).

However, the only thing that I completely disagree with is the contract. I don't think any coach that has never won a title deserves a 10-year contract. You should ALWAYS give yourself an "out" if the hire doesn't work out. A 10-year contract in CFB is just mind-boggling.

How else do you get a top coach to leave a premiere program where coach is basically "safe" until retirement?

I totally agree . Now you have an older coach with 100 million in guaranteed money . Does he have the fire in the belly to recruit and teach on the field like he did when he was younger and trying to prove himself ? I don’t know . I think the contract should be shorter and performance based . If you perform , you make even more money . What is wrong with that ?
