is supposed to be a college with a football team. but it is obvious that some, if not many think that it's a football team with a college.
Has nothing to do with whether the president was right to use this as a front in his budget grandstanding war.

My "sigh" was that LSU doesn't just let it's donors donate to "how they see fit"...nor does any reputable University.
Explain...somebody cutting an annual check with 7 figures on it cannot earmark it if they choose to do so?

and if you truly believe this...then you must also believe the head coach should not be paid a penny of a million bucks to coach this "amateur" game
I agree that the LSU head football coach and his coordinators are overpaid for the product that they produce.
LSU is paying top dollar to the football coaches, but, LSU is not getting the best return on the investment.
I also agree that the football team is an amateur team run by an organization whose primary objective is to educate children. That's why I personally do not expect LSU to regard LSU football on the same level as an NFL owner regards his NFL team. For me personally, I gained a deeper understanding of LSU football once I looked at the big picture: there's a difference between LSU football and pro football.

Well maybe our president should be doing something other than crying wolf in front of the state then.
This guy is a clown. LSU is supposed to be the flagship. We should be leading, not whining.

They want to raise more money. Tuition is one avenue and they've had to use it. Then TOPS comes into play. Out of state tuition is going to go up regardless of what happens in the spring.

Sure they do, just in another capacity
They don't.
The 28-30k number is ideal. If applications increase, LSU will simply be more selective.

just don't get it. Why does the President have the power over the VP of Operations. Why have the VP of Production?"
-That's essentially what you're saying. A little clearer now?
Then they are all idiots. They could have squashed this 2 weeks ago.
But funny how you and billj knew this all along, but Alexander's name doesn't come up until Saturday. So for 2 weeks it was all about Alleva and the board. To trust them, they will have Jimbo locked up. Well the decision was never theirs to make. And it seems King was spot on when saying the public doesn't know.

I get what the point is that the president is making. I assumed that LSU's answer to the problem was TAF. The state has been hurting for several decades now. You could say that the 70's - 90's of LSU football is because of going cheap on football. Again, I assumed TAF was the solution. But after this debacle, it's the solution only when everything is going good. So it's only a half solution.

They most certainly can, provided it aligns with the priorities of the University.

I don't agree with this. If you are solely basing it on winning a mythical title, then maybe. But only 5 schools have won one since LSU and they all pay top dollar. But if you look at the grand scheme of things and see how much the program is worth and that they lead the sec in ticket sales, then LSU is actually getting a good return on that investment.

It does not require great knowledge to have an understanding of a basic chain of command flowchart.
Now we all falsely assumed they were all on the same page with all of this.

You forgot to put "for now" on the end of that.

“It was a combination of factors and a decision that we made collectively,” Alexander says. “We weighed all the factors in all this and it was a joint decision between many of our board members, our AD and many of us decided this was the wrong time and wrong place (to replace Miles.)”
I don't why this would shock/surprise anyone. I at no time though Miles wouldn't be the HC at LSU next yr. He could have gone 6-6 and still would be the HC. There were simply too many factors in play against such a move at this time.
Anyone buying into Miles being replaced was simply setting themselves up for disappointment.
Now it's time to put this behind us, get ready for a bowl game, and hope our recruiting will not be to badly impacted from what turned out to be too much to do bout nothing.

No one was mentioning the BOS's involvement in these decisions when it was all going on. No firing was going to occur without them. Alleva and Alexander are underlings.

Unbelievable, moronic, myopic, unwarranted, irrational, dogshit meddling from a bunch of ignorant, dilettante, self-serving interlopers.
frick frick frick frick.
The fact that he can contend the source of the buyout funds was immaterial demonstrates how ludicrous his entire position is.
Duncecap cost us Jimbo.

so Alexander, the man THAT IS CHARGED with balancing his budget and making the money stretch as far as possible is handcuffed.
But it isn't his budget.
The athletic department has a separate budget.
I get LSu is supposed to look broke all the time, but at the same time does he think he is convincing professors and students to come to LSU with these scare tactics?
I started LSU when the recession hit, I have been through a ton of budget cuts, Alexander is the first president who threatened bankruptcy, and now we won't make altheltics moves because we are worried about appearances, when it isn't even the money.
What kid is gonna wanna come to a school like this? I am not talking athletes, I am talking anyone.
