Mike Archer is the singularly worst thing to ever happen to LSU Football in all our history.

If LSU had made the right hire in 87 we might never have been put through the Hallman years.

Mike wasn’t that bad a coach, he just couldn’t recruit. He’s the football Trent Johnson.

Johnson’s coaching acumen is extremely overrated by the board. He won because he had the Lopez twins at Stanford and Fazikas at Nevada. Gun to my head, I’m going with Johnny over that clown

Mike Archer is light years better than Curley. He has hung on as a power 5 dc for years at several schools, and may have even coached in the nfl at some point. Curley could barely get a hs job after he screwed us up. Archer just wasn't good enough as a hc for LSU, and our ath. dir. post has been in good hands more times than not since Saban got here, something Archer didn't have the benefit of.

he was in way over his head to be the hc, and as it pans out, he was never hc material, decent job as dc

must have learned that from Arnsparger, those teams were Stovall's recruits

yep, let it run on autopilot and totally lost control of the team and they totally imploded

Johnson made Sweet 16s with talent, Jones had Ben Simmons the #1 pick as well as Blakeney And Quaterman who are at least fringe NBA players and not only didn’t come close to the NCAA he was getting humiliated in games at the end of that season. if you take JJ over Trent with a gun to your head you might as well just pull the trigger

he was only 34 at the time.
that’s still pretty young to jump right into that fire pit as a first time head coach at a big time program.

been a long time, but it was almost like he was forced on us, Arnsparger was pushing him hard and Dean was such a buffoon, I'm not sure we looked at anybody else, Dean was probably still in shock over Bill's success

the correct answer is Joe Dean. He was cheap and we had substandard facilities at the time. Everyone with 20/20 hindsight says we could have hired Spurrier but instead of Hallman we could have hire Mike Gottfried an established coach at Pitt and possibly Mack Brown instead of Gerry D. He even wanted to lowball Saban and Emertt told him to go fly a kite.
