I think we can hit our way through a regional, especially given that we should get a good draw as a high national seed. The Supers, it all depends on the pitching matchups. If we get a team who's pitching we can get to, we should win that. i don't have a lot of confidence, at this particular moment, in our rotation after Skenes, so I wouldn't want to be matched with a team who's got deep pitching.

In Omaha, that's just a different animal. No one team has to beat you twice, it just takes two losses in any order, and if you lose one of the first two, and you don't have deep pitching, it's really, really difficult. We didn't have much pitching in '09, but we had two All-American starters. With our injuries to the pitching staff, we can't really afford to lose early.

We have guys (Hurd, Floyd, Little) who, if the light comes on and they find any consistency, it changes everything.

I feel like people only see LSU play and think everyone else has deep staffs and no pitching issues. In conference play, no team in the SEC has a team ERA under 4. And only 4 teams have a team ERA under 5.

Actually in regional play and in the beginning of play in Omaha two different teams can knock you out. You don’t have to lose two games to the same team twice.

And we just destroyed one of the better pitching teams in the conference.

I'm interested to see if our pitching takes a jump when we get away from SEC umps and their tiny strike zones.

I had the same thought this weekend. I wonder if the zone will open up a little more in the NCAA Tournament.

Also, as bad as we seem to think it is, we're 6th in the SEC in fewest walks allowed.

We have the best offense in the nation. If it's a windy day, our opponent's hitters have to bat in that same wind. I'll take our guys all day.

What if the 2 teams plays small ball?
You’re thinking too narrowly about my original comment. I’m not saying LSU wouldn’t go to the finals and if they do, I feel great about their chances to win it all.

It is getting there where multiple combinations can exist that could lead to them exiting before the finals.

I'm not making any assumptions. I said I wouldn't want to run into a team with a deep pitching staff in the supers. That statement doesn't in any way suggest that LSU is the only team with pitching problems. But there are deep staffs out there. More than deep staffs, there are teams with much better rotations than what we currently have. There are teams in just our league who have great rotations, but terrible bullpens. Well we don't have much in either category that we can depend on after Skenes.

It only takes one bad matchup, at exactly the wrong time. We need someone else to step up in the rotation. That's just being realistic. Anything is possible, even if no one else does emerge on our staff. Fresno State won a title with one of the worst pitching staffs I've ever seen in a postseason tournament. I've kind of grown out of blind optimism as a fan. I know we can hit our way through a lot, but there is reason for skepticism, as well.

Vandy is pretty close to that & they were swept this season. This is SEC baseball & if we can compete in this league, we can compete in the playoffs. And, oh, yea, we are leading the best conference in the country. Tons of credit to the entire coaching staff, which is ignored for the most part.

Bama has had success by a committee of decent, but not really scary pitchers. But yes, LSU blasted them. I'm more concerned about whether we can put up 8-10 runs against high end pitching, if we aren't getting quality innings out of our other starters. LSU has proven they are the best offense in the country, but it's not easy to score that many runs every single game. I feel like, if we can hold the opposition under 5, our offense is going to do enough against anyone. That's all I want to see from these guys. Just give us some competitive innings.

The Tennessee series, with their rotation, showed that LSU can do enough, if you can piece together some innings.

Some others have mentioned it... if that "light bulb" goes off for Floyd, Little, or Hurd, just 1 of them really.. and they get consistent. We could immediately become almost unbeatable in a tournament/series. I'm hopeful about Hurd. You could see the team really getting behind him after his performance out of the pen this weekend. Floyd and Little have the stuff, gotta find the mental game.

Also, the piece that could really put us over the top is Javen Coleman. Dominant out of the pen this weekend and I think they're building him up to start eventually.

It's all pitching(and partly defense). The offense is obviously there.

Still don't really have a guy that's a stopper in the back, but I think they can play matchups like they have been and make that work if some of those 4 step up in the rotation(Hurd, Floyd, Little, Coleman).

As good as the offense is, it will not carry them to a title if the pitching doesn’t improve some. The defense has also gone backwards recently. Luckily, it’s in the softer part of the schedule.

Things happen in baseball and you never know the adversity and matchups that they could face. As of now, this team doesn’t have the consist arms to battle back from a losers bracket scenario. There is so much pressure on Skenes to be great each game
