Portal and new transfer rule was official Oct '18 about the time Jeaux demolished UGA.

The transfer rule not requiring you to sit out didn’t even start until COVID and only because teams/conferences were canceling seasons. It was supposed to just be a temporary rule to address unprecedented circumstances

And the NCAA is just sitting back doing nothing.

That’s because the way the rules are written, it is incredibly easy to tamper without technically breaking the rules. Schools can’t contact kids directly that are not in the portal. But they can easily get word to a player on another roster through an acquaintance, high school coach, or former teammate that they would be interested in said player “should” he enter the portal. Player tells his parents, the player’s parents contact the other school’s coach, and viola, no rules broken.

Please try to not be completely ignorant. JB was a GRADUATE TRANSFER. Those players have ALWAYS been able to transfer after GRADUATING!

Coach Hugh Freeze and NIL. If you’re not tampering then you are not in the game. Please try to convince me this isn’t the poster child for tampering. Also, 1977 or whatever your screen name is please stop posting your “insider” info because you are always wearing your purple glasses.

I comprehend just fine. I'm not the one making excuse after excuse for kids transferring in, and then turning around and doing the exact opposite for the kids transferring out.

Some of these people can't take off their purple and gold glasses. Yeah, I'm sure we have top transfer classes because these out of state guys just really relate to Brian Kelly and love Louisiana. It's not a coincidence that they're posting a picture on Instagram with Gordon a week after committing. Every top team in college football is doing the same thing. It's as naive as thinking LSU wasn't paying players before NIL.

Personal issues my arse. Maybe if he went to the jorts I'd agree. His personal issue was that his NIL deal wasn't gonna get better here.

Can’t wish the kid well, but won’t wish him ill will.

Looks like he wants to be THE stud linebacker on a team and not be in the shadow of a true and proven stud in Perkins. He will be the second best linebacker on this team for his first 3 years and kid seems like he may not have been able to handle that. He goes to a desperate team likely for big money to be #1.

The kids are simply using the system provided to them to their advantage. The NCAA is to blame for this stupidity by removing the required year of sitting after a transfer. No longer is their a reward for graduating, but one for getting paid.

Between NIL and the stupid transfer rules, this is what you get.

Just end college football and let the NFL pay for its own damn minor leage like other sports.

I can’t understand why people still try to compare a grad transfer to this new free agency. You’d think people would realize these are apples to oranges, but still people cry “but but but Burrow!”

Because the majority of college football fans, including fans of LSU, are fricking morons.

No one is picking on LSU and this staff won’t let a near second tier program like Auburn do so. Kelly and staff just aren’t going to overpay for players that likely aren’t worth it. Auburn is in a tough spot to build fast, so they’re just sloppily throwing money around. Coach Kelly is strategic and focused on building this program with those that want to be here and produce, like a Will Campbell or Harold Perkins, that will set the tone for the next few years.

Look at what Georgia has done in terms of players that follow that program’s selfless, team-oriented philosophy; get paid within reason, win, developed, and most importantly drafted to their potential. Coach Kelly is gravitating toward that dynamic. If a player or two walks, then it shall be but I trust the staff to get the job done, with or without Reed or Tolan. The 22’ standouts are all still here and happy, Perkins, Campbell, Taylor, and Jones, that’s the core. Let’s see how they proceed at addressing the need with Tolan being gone.

You act like this means something to NFL caliber players. It doesn’t and it’s ridiculous to try to include it as a “perk” for them. The simple fact is, there is no academic requirements for an NFL job. Therefore forcing these players into academic programs that doesn’t benefit them with their career is ridiculous. It would be like forcing medical school students to play a sport and saying “see what we are giving you”.

The portal would've been a toothless database without accompanying rule changes.

LINK ]Division I student-athletes will have the ability to transfer to a different school and receive a scholarship without asking their current school for permission.

ETA: As stated elsewhere, this had little to do with graduate transfers like Jeaux.

To have a positive spin theory, my thinking is that he might be expecting a child with a woman who is from that area and has family in that area.

If so, best of luck with the new family and continued career!

Said this early when it first broke. Depending on who he went to, you would know money was involved. The fact that he went to Auburn instead of back to UF is all you need to know. Freeze is getting dirty immediately and this is the 2nd guy he's grabbed from LSU.

My guess is the kid didn't like the money and fame and playing time Perk was getting considering both came in at the same time.

Yes they can. They can easily change the transfer rule back to how it was before Covid. They changed it for that reason and then never bothered to change it back.
