this would completely neuter the regular season.

So at 24, SEC teams may be able to get in at 8-4. That would be stupid.

It is, 16 with 4 byes- if 24 players will have no academics( I’m not naive they don’t get much now) and injuries will definitely play a key role with extended season(more than today).
They’ve got to get this portal & NIL sht under control first.

I mean, why pussyfoot around with it? Have 8 "mini" conferences of 8 (the Top 64 programs), have them play 7 games each to qualify for 32 spots. Those eliminated can have a NIT style tournament of their own and then the Top 32 play a double elimination tourney for all the marbles.

There are only so many games you can ask 18 to 22 year olds to play, IMHO.

Well, in a traditional playoff, 8-4 teams could sometimes be better than some 10-2 teams based on schedule/league. I just believe it would be more for college football.

We made the playoffs! We made the top 32 out of what 100 something teams? Bowl games are trash. Your not playing for anything but saying you made it to the quarters is something imo. To some teams, making it to the final 16 is something big to them. I just feel like a full playoff system is better for div 1.

I don’t see the issue. He’ll go 32 like high school. You have and extra 4 weeks that start after championship weekend. Top 25 and 7 at large or expand to top 32 get in.

I'm for a 16 team playoff with no byes and all games except the championship game to be on campus.

There used to be an argument against too many games for college athletes...they get paid now so might as well treat them like nfl players.

It would definelty much more interesting who makes it and following the games. Even with 32 you can hand out byes to the top number of teams and let the low seeds play for something also in the first round.

Tbh even if you have to cut the season down to 11 games only.

people seem to forget that regular bowl games are trash and have no clue how a full playoff like lower divisions and high school generate a ton more of interest in whose playing etc. There is not one playoff system where people are not tuned in with tons of interest. If you are a true football person, having a full playoff would be golden. Nobody watches the bowl games anymore unless its in the final 12 teams atm. I mean you got a 100 something teams, why not take the top 32 and have fun with it.

Sounds like you want to hand moral victories out to losers. Not really surprising considering how everything now wants to be handed something rather than work for it. I'd rather them keep the format like it is 12 teams. Don't like it? Work your butt off and win. 32 is just insanity and stupid. You're rewarding bad teams by giving them a shot when they don't deserve anything.

32 is the absolute last thing NCAA football needs now where there's already major questions about work ethic on players who are getting paid millions now. You're just rewarding lazy at that point so we can watch round 1 blowouts to teams who had no business being there. Hell, it's already like that now in a 12 team structure I can't imagine 32.

The only thing "good" about a 32 team format is lining media companies pockets with money.

Winning a playoff game being in the top 32 and being in the final 16 bwcause you win your forst round game isnt a moral victory, its a legitimate victory for a team's season and everything that aurrounds college football. End of story.

I totally disagree with the rest of your reply. I can give several instances where lower seeded teams in other leagues in college and hs have made runs to 16/8/4. This alone proves a 32 team field is better for the sport and the interests of the sport. Bowl games are trash and the attendance is bad. That comparison alone would prove a playoff game is leagues ahead of a regular run of the mill bowl game. On the other hand more.than 32 teams make a bowl. Now those teams can stay home. Make top 32 or go home. Jmo.

Sixteen teams, no automatic bids, no bye’s, no conference championship games.

Apples to oranges comparison, all NFL teams are talented. Double digit point spreads are rare.

If it really goes to 24, which I think is too many but whatever, then just let it be the best 24. No automatic bids if it’s 24 teams, if you’re not one of the 24 best you shouldn’t be in the championship playoff.

As far as how to get the 24 best, just use some consistent metric, make the criteria clear as day. AP poll, coaches poll, Football Power Index, BCS computers, or an average of all of them. frick and I mean frick the playoff committee and their weekly ranking shows, I hate how suits in a boardroom become the stars of the show for the last month of the regular season, with everybody guessing who’s going to win the committee’s beauty pageant. This would end any bitching about who got left out, like ND last year and ‘23 FSU, because it is no longer a matter of human opinion and unclear criteria, the metrics would be transparent in this case.

I bet they want to create a CFB version of March Madness and make more money from betting. It is stupid. I thought they cared about the well-being of the student athletes? While we love to see more football, it devalues the regular season. It is becoming like the NFL. They claim that they care about the health of the athletes and now they want to add an 18th game. It is just a money grab.
