24 sounds good.
We need to make sure that a Four Loss Bama makes it.

NCAA football has 130 teams, and right now only 12 make the playoffs, which is about 11%. Moving to 24 is 18%. I think that is proper representation of the competing teams to determine a champion.
This is enormously flawed, given that the professional leagues have much, much more parity.
A 24 team playoff is going to include some teams that are not good and get destroyed.

Way too many. Needs to be 14 with only the top 2 getting byes.
But it’s about $$$ so just make it a 64 team playoff like baseball while we are at it and get rid of bowl season.

Did we learn nothing from the Tulane and James Madison debacles last year? Both universities were embarrassed in their playoff games.
Why should we then expand the bracket even further? Is it an attempt to spread the misery to more teams?

They’ve talked previously about how this would work and it’s not a bad idea. You have 9-24 play each other the first week. It’s basically a playin while the top 8 have byes. This would also create value in the regular season since you want to be in the top 8.
THERE SHOULDN'T BE BYE WEEKS IN A SUBJECTIVE PLAYOFF SEEDING FORMAT

Why would anyone want the gubmint fricking around with FB?
24 teams is absurd, just as basketball going to 64 was.

Why are so many people saying this? The opposite is true. There will be a shite ton more meaningful regular season games if we expand to 24. At 12 teams, by mid season, a huge number of teams are already out of playoff contention. At 24 teams, that number is significantly less. This same example is true at the end of the season, more teams in the playoff hunt.
Also, at 24 teams there are 8 byes instead of 4. More meaningful games during the season for teams vying for a first round bye.
As for 9-24, these teams are playing meaningful games either fighting for a playoff berth or fighting for a first round home game.
I don't understand the mindset of people saying it will dilute the regular season.

Sadly, my exact fears and warnings about what ANY playoff system would lead to in CFB continue to come to fruition in exactly the way I expected them to.
We already saw it with the basketball tournament, that it's never enough, but football is a sport that you just can't make that kind of ridiculous expansion make sense. And yet, it was incredibly predictable that it would happen, and we are right on the doorstep of it.
I don't care how much anyone hated the BCS. This is ruining college football, along with the other garbage that is making it not even amateur sports anymore.

It's a rather simple explanation, as I see it. It used to be that you almost couldn't lose a game, if you wanted to stay in contention. Now, there isn't nearly as much of an urgency on any given game.
And while it's true that more teams will feel like they have a shot, do we want those teams having a shot? Do we need to see even more blowouts in the playoffs with super average teams getting in? It dilutes not just the regular season, but everything.
Not everyone deserves a "chance" to be in the playoffs. If you're not very good, that's your problem. But we continue to expand in the name of "fairness". There's nothing exciting to me about watching sloppy teams slugging it out at the end of the year for the right to be in a watered down playoff field.
