Nah, there are a ton of less talented, less ideal situations throughout college football where other DCs are making it work.

Mahomes mentioned on Peyton and Eli last night that coaches hate spying the QB because it takes a player out of coverage which I'm assuming is why House didn't want to do it.

But shite after multiple long scrambles for TDs/first downs you can't let them keep beating you that way. Inexcusable the lack of adjustments in that game.

House has three years of DC experience prior to coming to LSU. His record: 16 -16

You can't be paid what he is paid at this school and have your defense play like ours does. The reason doesn't even matter. Only the results.

Because of talent, right? In other words, the players.
I can see that being the case for the first two years, given what they were to start.

So, where in recruiting is the fix? Is that the current players fault too?
It is up to the Head Coach and DC to get what they need, right?
How many years can HC/DC use lack of players as an excuse?

How many PPG have been allowed?

289 points across 10 games. As far as the SEC, only Vandy has allowed more points in 2023.

That's good enough to be 97th out of 133 in FBS. To be fair it is the 8th toughest schedule. This team is also poor in total defense, as well, 416.1 YPG, which is like 108th or whatever.

Since this team invariably gets compared to 2019 (because of the offense), that team gave up 21.9 PPG, making it 32/130 and the schedule was 6th toughest. Of course, 2019 also scored more (48.4 PPG) than 2023 (45.9), although 2023 still has some room to boost that.

Matt house defense

2013 Pitt #17
2014 Pitt #34
2015 FIU #35
2017 Kentucky #85
2018 Kentucky #91

Had some really good years but also not so good. Not sure of the talent level on those teams. I just don’t know if he is elite, it looks like he can’t overcome talent deficiency with coaching. Who knows next year he might be able to flip the switch, but he won’t have this offense to lean on.

House has to go but our talent on defense is really really bad. Tackling is a “want to” problem. These guys at this level have had plenty of practice tackling if they’ve made it to D 1 level. Now maybe they are rusty but by the 10th game of the season it’s lack of motivation and being out of position.

Personally I think “next man up” means exactly that. Everyone is at the same practice and learning the same playbook.

You can think whatever you want, but there are reasons that Poland lost to Hitler and LSU lost to Bama.

Do you think it's because of coaching?

Spying only works against shitty passers who are good scramblers. That used to be Milroe, but no longer is. The answer is that we should have used a disciplined cage rush. That is probably what was called, and our defensive linemen probably just did not execute it. Maybe missing a dline coach is the problem, IDK.

All of these posters saying they should have spied Milroe are just pressing the easy button. I think it is something they could have done five or six times, but who is to say they would have executed that any better than they executed their cage rushes?

True, but I'd rather make Milroe beat us with his passing than give him his biggest strength and let him run all over us.

I’m curious to see if BK/Woodward give House a pass this year.
When has he lead a notable defense? Maybe one year at UK?

I was told that they have had a problem with players “doing their own thing”. No clue as to whether this is true or not. If so, it’s due to lack of experience, coaching, or both.

Well we tried spying Travis and that didn’t work but I agree there needed to be someone spying on 3rd downs. Like others have said, if you don’t stay in your rush lanes a running QB will kill you. The players have to believe in what the coaches are calling or the defense won’t work. House likely lost that defense in the first game.

With what? He has zero pieces to move around on the DLine. MSmith CAN’T get pressure. Wingo is gone. He doesn’t have a DL Coach to teach the young guys. Our LB’s are slow and lack depth and the secondary - well, where does one start.

In Chess, if all you have is 4 pawns to protect your King against a Queen, a Bishop, 2 Rooks, and a Knight, you’re kinda Phuked.

Bingo Wichita. We had a guy named Aranda who would do just that. Hopefully we can bring him back after Baylor cans him as HC.
