May #7 as a whole rest in eternal glory. Looks like #7 means absolutely nothing now

I think being the best LA native is pretty sweet. The team cares about it. Recruits care about it. If you don’t……..then don’t.

wrong, its great for recruiting lineman (and showing they are important) -- its brilliant actually.

The LA playmakers are always there (wanting to work behind great linemen)

The #7 was not defined as the best playmaker.

No but playmakers defined it. That’s the point. I’m all for not passing 7 out until there is a clear 7. But this is just slapping it on somebody because you feel like you have to.

I’m just expressing my opinion that the #7 tradition is now over with.

But what you’re too butt-fricking stupid to grasp is that your opinion could not possibly be more irrelevant. It means less than nothing.

If he has redefined it as the best Louisiana player, then he did not just “slap” it on Will.

Some may think the Louisiana thing is stupid, but NIL and recruiting have become different. I see this as something that will be used as a tool with Louisiana talent, possibly turning into something lucrative and enticing.

Again, it doesn’t make me like or support him any less. It’s just one of those decisions that could blow up in his face from a morale standpoint and it’s a 100% unforced error.

By calling it an “unforced error” you’re assuming it doesn’t turn out to be a good thing. Do we have any evidence that the team isn’t completely onboard?

I also think it’s a little odd to call it “disrespectful” when we are talking about a tradition that hasn’t even been around all that long. You could argue that it didn’t become a tradition at all until Fournette took the number. Mathieu did it because of his relationship with Patrick Peterson. Fournette is really the one that turned it into a recurring thing.

So you’re talking about something that started less than 10 years ago. And in that time you’ve had:
- Fournette 2014-2016
- Chark 2017
- Giles 2018
- Delpit 2019
- Chase 2020 (until he opted out)
- Stevens 2020
- Stingley 2021
- Boutte 2022

So since Fournette, how many of those players lived up to the “tradition” to the point where they can really feel disrespected? Giles wound up giving the number back. Chase left the team so he never even wore it. Stevens was a leader for us but wasn’t exactly a superstar, going on to be a 6th round draft pick. Stingley only played 3 games as #7. Boutte was our #2 WR and was like 500 yards behind our #1 WR.

I don’t mean this to hate on those guys - a lot of them have made great contributions to the program in one way or another. But nobody outside of Leonard Fournette, DJ Chark, or Grant Delpit really has any room to complain about the “tradition” of the #7 jersey being tarnished.

I mean you realize they made this a thing because pre nil a guy makes a bunch a plays and everybody starts wearing the jersey that person had a legitimate argument that he is selling those jersey. See NCAA football. This gave schools the argument that the jersey is “tradition”.

Why does he get to redefine it? somethings should be untouchable. Dude didn’t show up at at Norte Dame and change that sign to say “Play like the best player in Indiana today” did he?

I like. . . No Love BK as our coach. But this is the first thing he’s done since he’s been here that signals he’s out of touch with this fanbase. The ironic part is the “best player from Louisiana” stuff; he’s trying too hard. That opens a possibility for division right there. How disappointing will it be when the next clear #7 emerges who happens to be from Texas or Florida and the fricking center from West Monroe is wearing a 7 patch. It’s ridiculous.
