This is how you win BIG time football games. GEAUX for the "W" and don't give the other team ANY chance of victory. LSU has blown games against ND and AtM late b/c they chose the conservative "play not to lose" approach. I am a big-time Saints fan but could not help but smile when the Cowboys offensive coordinator went for the "W" and got it. That's how you win close football games. Once again NO guts NO glory. This is not anything new but it would be great to see our offensive coaching staff do something unexpected at crunch time to secure victory. Otherwise we have seen the results of playing not to lose and it's not good.

And it's a conservative offensive philosophy that's a holdover from the Miles years, where we also lost games because we needed a single first down late in games and refused to do what it took to get them.

This is every bit as bad as prevent defense. Actually worse because you do it to yourself.

I've said it in previous posts about aTm game, they lost that game with 2.5 minutes left in regulation and didn't actively try to pick up a first down. That is not only on SE but on O too, pretty sure that was a collaborative decision to do what they did. Rather lose "trying to win" than lose "trying to play it safe" and still lose, it's the worst way to lose because you know deep down you didn't do all you could have done to win.

There was 2:03 on the clock, so an incomplete pass wouldn't matter, as the 2 minute warning would stop play anyway. Otherwise, they would have run the ball to control the clock

Your point? There was no clock in OT when LSU ran QB runs on three straight plays on 1st and goal.

This, and Aranda leaving Davis wide the frick open allowing him to waltz into the EZ on the last play in regulation were our undoing. We needed our D to stop A&M from converting a 4th and 18, then Davis's 19 yard game tying TD run, and we let them have both.

Payton went for a TD instead of kicking an easy FG. Was he playing to WIN? What went wrong - he lost.

“Playing to win” is just a platitude.

actually they lost it with 1:36 in regulation and A&M had no timeouts left. let them drive 70 plus yards to tie the game.

I’m sorry but you had to run the ball 3 times at the end of that game to burn there timeouts and get the clock running

And the NFL is not the same as college in time management

There were multiple causes of loss, and most of them rest squarely on us, not the refs.

In a close game, on the road, there are many causes for a loss. Lopsided officiating does its part.

Sure the officiating was bad at the end, but my point was that LSU had 60 minutes of regulation to put aggy away like we should have. With a competent offense, or our defense making a stop on one of two very long critical plays for aggy, we win before the refs put their stink on it.

It was a free play lol. If they didn’t pass Garrett should be fired.

You really don’t know shite.

That’s not why they threw the ball to the end zone.

You can’t possibly be a big-time Saints fan with that comment.

Let me guess you smile when the Falcons win too...

Get off the LSU board with this shite thread.

Dallas’ gameplan was a carbon copy of Les Miles/Cam Cameron. Great defense. Minimal chances. Run the ball. Eat clock.

You know it’s bad when people are referencing the Cowboys as an offensive blueprint for success.

They also had nothing to lose on the pass call. Clock was at 2:03. Saints had no timeouts. Clock stops at 2:00 regardless if you complete as pass, run the ball or throw a incompletion.

LSU ran the ball to run 40 more seconds off the clock.

Dallas was in different situation than LSU. The clock was going to stop no matter what.

Exactly! That was a pretty easy decision for Dallas. In fact, it would have been dumb to NOT throw a pass in that situation
