So they want to speed gameplay up so they can add more commercials?
How else do you think those new big TV deals are going to be paid? The games will still be just as long (maybe longer). But you'll now get to see more Jardiance commercials and contemplate how a medicine can cause a rare but serious infection of your taint

Players who go out with injury cannot return to the game until the next possession. This will disincentivize faking injuries.
Except it will encourage players to stay in the game when possibly hurt. So if your Qb gets the wind knocked out of him he should be out till the next series? That aint happening.

The issue isn't QB's staying in with the wind knocked out of them. And if that's collateral damage then so be it.

All this does is make way for more commercials. They aren't going to shorten the length of games. They should have gotten rid of so many fricking commercials instead of taking away precious football snaps

Why shorten games anyway? Is anyone really complaining that watching their team just takes too damn long?
If you don't want to watch just check the score later. Why try and screw up the game?

Good college games are way to long

Les Miles would be doomed

The college game continues to become more pro like all the time.

Not a fan of this. And also, what’s with all the shortening the game crap? Baseball I can understand; it’s a slow paced sport as it is. But why would I want to shorten something g that I look forward to year round?
College football has been letting the tail wag the dog vis a vis TV for too long now. The networks should tailor their broadcasts to the game as it is, not the other way around.
It's worth what it's worth. That's what the conferences need to understand.
It's the ONE thing soccer gets right!

CBS games will shorten significantly.

Yep, it's actually 1 of the main things that got we watching soccer. It's glorious watching 45 minutes of a game without a single commercial.
I hate commercials so much. This isn't the 1st time football has made changes to actually show more commercials and it's stupid af.

Anytime LSU was on CBS

OK, I know I'm not the brightest.
What am I missing?
Before, the game stopped after every first down. Time to sneak in more commercials.
Now, the new rule says the clock will not stop after first downs (except in the last two minutes of the quarters). No time to get in more commercials.
I'm obviously missing something in all the comments saying there will be more commercials. Why?

Football, as a sport, was always structured such that it was naturally conducive to TV broadcasts, with 15 minute quarters, a long half times, 3 time outs per team per half. You could have a lovely full exciting game with plenty of plays, and plenty avenues for commercial stoppages, and the game would go 2 1/2-3 hours, with everyone happy and placated.
Instead, networks got greedy (and the conferences became complicit in this and lazy in their thinking with regard to the value of their "product"), and we started plugging in more and more stoppages, longer possession changes for minutes of commercials between each, such that the "games" were now 4+ hours long, with no more real playing time. It started to get ridiculous, so the "solution" is to DECREASE THE ACTUAL PLAYING TIME ON THE FIELD.

Hate how everyone wants to “shorten” baseball when the games greatest attribute is there’s not time. Now we put a guy on second in the 10th. 10 run rule. Pitchers don’t control the pace anymore.
Posted on 4/21/23 at 5:35 pm to GeauxtigersMs36
I think this is the kind of thing that would play right in to Les Miles gameplan. Not sure what you guys are thinking. Run the ball play defense. He bear people by controlling the clock and not giving others many opportunities to score.

Meh most people will be too drunk to realize anything is different
