Everyone is getting bent out of shape for what, maybe 50 or 60 kids a year?

There were over 2000 kids in tPortal this past year and we haven't even hit the spring window yet.

I’m talking about big money NIL recruits. Transfer portal kids better already have an NIL offer they can trust…or they are idiots for walking away. If you aren’t playing where you are and you join the transfer portal, you probably aren’t playing football again in that that or an equal conference.

I just want to know how the NCAA can limit someone to a certain numbers of years of eligibility.

Imagine a guy staying in college for 10 years and getting 3 or 4 degrees. Lots of NIL money and at 28, he retires from sports with all the degree options.

who is both good enough to make lots of NIL money for a decade but also not good enough to try and go pro?

To each their own, but I've ALWAYS just cheered for the "uniforms"...not the individual players.
Alt: I completely agree, I root for LSU, not individual players. But when I don't know my roster each year, and there's few 3 or 4-year players who we've watched progress over their career, there's far less to feel an attachment to.

One of the great things about college sports in the local connection. Most of the players are from the state, and we know those high schools, coaches, and towns. There's more of a connection because of that.

With players jumping all over the country each year, all that connection is gone.

Long story short - if LSU's roster is entirely composed of players from the West Coast and it changes every year, I'll feel far less of a connection to the LSU team - even if the players wear the purple and gold.

Someone not playing football probably.

It’s wild to me that the people offering these NIL deals weren’t putting in more contractual protections in the first place.

There’s not many things they can do. The payments can’t be tied to enrollment at the school.

If we are going to treat college like this with NIL then they should be signing contracts that keep them at the school until they are released from their contracts.

They already sign one year contracts every season. It’s called an Athletic Aid Agreement.

Only a very small percentage of college athletes ever go pro. The majority of college athletes are still good enough for college.

If as a student athlete you sign a deal with a certain …NIL booster, they should have to pay to buyout their contracts

That’s the risk you take signing kids out of high school to influence the decision on where they play ball at. The spirit of the rule is that it’s not supposed to influence their decision. They’re also prob one year deals that have escalator clauses that go up every year a player stays.

If you are transferring more than once chances are you aren’t going to be a huge difference maker. There will be some exceptions but how many guys have transferred more than once and not been mediocre or non factors.

Even if you don't get the top 10/15 HS recruits, the transfer portal will be a gold mine every year. You can get the top recruits you missed from HS, like HVL, Wolfenbarger, and others. The transfer portal has started to close the gap between the top 10 teams and average teams. Look at Ole Miss and their annual dip in the portal. LSU will need to do the same, get couple top transfers every year, like getting an experienced top 5 PG from the portal the next couple months. With LSU's championship name brand and NIL's, there will be plenty of top transfers who want to come to LSU.
