that's actually a really good point. By not honoring some of our best players because they didn't graduate, we are effectively letting them be forgotten, which no one should want. I think it's somewhat silly to have the degree prerequisite to be in the HOF and, post Maravich, have your number retired.

please also post your disdain that LSU would dare sully their academic reputation by retiring Todd Walker's jersey too.

Todd Walker graduated in 1998 fwiw

It is absolutely silly... Football is the best example, think of all the transcendent players we've had over the last decade that haven't graduated so therefore can't have their number retired

Point conceded. That didn't seem to matter to anyone in that post as that fact was never mentioned or even championed, but I do concede the point. It was interesting to note that graduation is NOT requisite to getting a jersey retired however. And since that is the case, there should be no argument that on the court, Rauf's play was definitely deserving.

Omg STFU about this racist BS. Shaq was retired you morons. Man you people are so damn pathetic.

The same people who bring this crap up every chance they get are the racist POS's in this country. I'm so damn tired of hearing MAGA hat this and that. Confederate this and that. STFU this isn't the freakn 1800's or the 1940's. It's 2019. The country voted a black president into office and all he did was screw up all our sovereign laws and didn't do a damn thing for the inner cities or his own people of Chicago. That place actually got worse when he was running the country.

You people are so damn ignorant and blind to the facts. You believe what the majority are squealing out of their pig mouths then gossip like its gospel. Y'all have absolutely no individualism. Y'all run with the herd. Be the sheep, herd up and be eaten by the big bad wolf you morons let in the pin yourselves. Man I can't stand liberal freaks. I wish a MFer would take my hat off my head or disrespect anyone in my family. I know plenty of black MAGA folks who are just smarter than your average not even smarter but will challenge ideas thrown at them and test the truth. That's all you have to do really.

Sick of these politics. When I meet people, I'm nice and respectful until you aren't with me. At that point it's frick you.

Probably many people missed what Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf was communicating in the interview. As a former LSU basketball player he will be honored to have his jersey retired at LSU, but more importantly he understands that his accomplishments on the basketball court will not be the ticket for him to enter paradise. That's a deep thought! For sure, Mahmoud is a better human being than myself.

Edit- I stand corrected. Even though he was here for four years, he somehow did not graduate. I would like to know how that's possible.

I'm sure they could give him some kind of honorary degree that would get around the requirement.

Retire any worthy Number, so long as it reflects with great Honor on the reputation of the University.

It's often a very tough call. For example, what if a Retired Number personality is convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude later in life? Take the Number from the Roll of the Retired?

you and your ilk are a much bigger problem. You/they lack common sense. Why stop at a bs degree? or why a bs degree. That's just an arbitrary number of hours of classes. It has no conclusive meaning

Good luck to all you youngsters taking this guys advice and trying to land a job flaunting those 23 hours of college classes. Because employers certainly see it that way............

bullshite. You're just landing on that reason not to give the muslim guy his honor. Now, bitch and scream and protest too much so I'll be 100% sure that's true.

And let me tell you, I fricking hate Islam. I think it's a cult of stupidity and violence that threatens to destroy all human achievement and history as "blasphemy."

So I ain't defending his faith, by any stretch. Even so, it's still clear the muslim thing is the real reason. Graduation my arse.

Good God people!

LSU is a University first and foremost, not a minor league franchise. The whole reason a player came here is on A SCHOLARSHIP toward a degree

Its like those retards that want their student loans forgiven, because they stayed drunk for 4 years and never bothered to earn a degree

Graduation has nothing to do with it. It has everything to do with the fact that he converted to Islam(and proud of it) and changed his name to funny Arabic name.

This.

The point of college is to prepare you for a career.

Did Chris Jackson attend LSU?

Yes

Did LSU prepare him for his career?

Yes

The degree is irrelevant. He learned enough skills necessary to be successful in his career of professional basketball.

Look at it this way.

If I attended a technical college to train in HVAC and I was one of their top three students of all time and then I decided to cut out early and forgo my degree after learning the basics to go take an apprenticeship, should my name be removed from the honor roll bulletin board in the hallway?

Mahmoud, to this day, is the greatest college guard I have seen play the game. He was the combo guard before combo guards ruled the NBA. I have played against him (crushed me) and have talked to him twice. He was a good man of integrity then and is now who just so happens to practice a different faith and holds different political beliefs from many here. Truth is, many who slam Mahmoud are far more forgiving of others who have done and said some pretty fricked up shite.

Hell yes.

And for frick's sake, Maravich did not graduate from LSU!

Hell yes.

I wonder how many of you clowns who bring up Mahmoud and the flag fly the confederate battle flag.

Now this is where you lost me.

You can't argue that Chris Jackson's okay because he should be allowed to view his religion the way he wants and then turn around and chastise people who choose to view symbol such as a flag, in a way that they want.

Different things mean different things to different people.

They should hang his jersey in the rafters but not “retire” it, kind of like football does with the stadium ring of honor. And can still say you have to graduate to retire it. Especially since Pete never graduated.

These days, nobody of that elite level is going to stay 4 years and graduate, not should they.

But guys like Ben Simmons , shaq, CJ, would help with recruiting to see those big nba names hanging from the rafters when recruits come visit, regardless of how long they stayed here.

Shaq and I graduated in the same class, December of "00. I think we had the highest average starting salary of any class in LSU's history at the time.
