Surprisingly that's actually a more reasonable take than whatever the hell metaloctopus is arguing

Leaving, and not finishing your degree, which he has had ample time to do, is quitting. That is the word I used. And many of these guys don't even try when they are in college, because they don't think it matters. You let them off the hook, you set a bad example for everyone else. Sadly, many players ARE given all sorts of praise, even if they are awful students.

So you are intentionally playing dumb, now? You know exactly what I'm talking about. You just don't agree, because you think "hey, they didn't come to play school".
And that's why so many people are ignorant like you.

What is the majority rule around the country for Universities retiring a Jersey ? I bet non or most have anything to do with graduation.

Lol @ using "it's the rule dammit" as an argument. You've already been proven wrong about that and it's a lame viewpoint even if you weren't.
Using Mays as an example is possibly the biggest use of an outlier I've ever seen
I assume you think Rudy Niswanger is one of the only football players deserving of recognition?
I didn't simply say it was the rule. I said why it was the rule. Again, you're just too lazy to accept that people should take responsibility.
As for Skylar Mays being an outlier, he's only such, because he's one of the few athletes left who aren't lazy and entitled. That's exactly why I mentioned him. He's not the only one CAPABLE of doing what he does, he's just one of the few who are willing to.
Great athletes get their recognition in the papers, and on tv. They make their money and win their awards. But they don't deserve to be honored by the university they never graduated from. This isn't complicated.

Yes Chris Jackson’s jersey should be retired and hanging in the PMAC. Jackson owns the national freshman scoring record, not just here at LSU, if we want to build a history and culture we need to recognize and promote the great things and traditions that’ve happened here. Not only did Jackson break the freshman record he was an All-American both seasons here and 2x SEC POTY. How many of those have we had here? Only one other power 5 player has averaged over 30ppg in the last 30 years and that was the Big Dog from Purdue, Glen Robinson, but Robinson’s career average can’t even touch CJs (29ppg to 27.5ppg). It’s time to celebrate one of the 3/4 best players in LSU basketball history.

Make you can look it up. It should be a requirement everywhere, if it isn't.

WTF are you talking about?
I know someone who graduated with a masters in physics 5 years after he started LSU. This was before you could test out of courses.
That means a 3 year undergrad degree.

Yes it is, but either abide by the rules or change the rules. But until the rules are changed you have to abide by the current rules. It really isn’t complicated!!!!!!

Dude if you think guys like Mays are common I don't know what to tell you. Also, unsurprisingly, you didn't comment on my Niswanger comparison.
I'm the same age as you. I realize that the value guys that leave early bring to LSU is way more important than them staying and graduating. You're just being obtuse.

The fact that his jersey isn’t already retired is sad. Honor the guy. He earned it.

No joke. The rule obviously should be changed.

frick Chris Jackson.
In no way does he deserve his jersey retired by LSU.
This is some of the dumbest shite I’ve ever read on TD.

Yet, you're ok with his jersey being retired eventhough he was expelled for not attending class. So, he didn't get it before 40. But you said that he would have gotten it had he not died. That's bs and you know it. He was a senior and didn't complete it. Pistol is very deserving of this honor as is Rauf.

Found this previous post on TD. Should Todd Walker's Jersey be retired?
LINK /
Interesting read. Quick, without clicking the link, what do you think the general consensus was? I bet you can guess correctly! Remarkably there wasn't the painfully coded language when it came to his discussion. And let's be honest...Todd Walker was great, but no better at his sport than Chris Jackson was at his. And if you take time to read the posts you'll see that graduation is NOT a prerequisite to getting your jersey retired. "To have a jersey retired at LSU, an athlete must have completed intercollegiate competition for LSU a minimum of five years prior to nomination. Athletes must have demonstrated truly unusual and outstanding accomplishments, exceeding and in addition to all criteria used for Hall of Fame selection. The athletic performance must be considered unique, such as winning of a Heisman Trophy or National Player of the Year award, and should be based on the total LSU career. Athletes may also be considered for making dramatic impact on the popularity of his or her sport or for significant participation in positive change in LSU Athletics. Nominees must have a unanimous vote of support from the Hall of Fame committee". LSUsports.net
So now...all you posters who were so upset at the mere thought of the retiring of Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf's jersey on the grounds he didn't graduate and had the audacity to go make millions of dollars after he was drafted, please also post your disdain that LSU would dare sully their academic reputation by retiring Todd Walker's jersey too.
