but a two year player looked out for themselves rather than the University when they left so early

I wonder what the breakdown is for:
1. Alumni who vote “nay”
2. Alumni who vote “yea”
3. Non-alumni who vote “nay”
4. Non-alumni who vote “yea”
I’m gonna guess that 1>2 and 4>3.
I don't know how that breakdown would come out. I would be willing to bet that the people who are old enough to have seen CJ play, and understand what he was giving to and doing for LSU basketball, would vote majority "yea".
It would be a crime, in my opinion, to not hang his jersey in the PMAC. It's highly unlikely that there will ever be another player of his caliber that will graduate from LSU. He just happened to be ahead of his time.
As far as his religious or political beliefs go, if you ever listen to him tell the story of his life before LSU and before his conversion to Islam, you might come away with a different take. The guy had a rough childhood that he overcame, first through basketball, and then through finding a god he could be at peace with through Islam. I'm happy for the guy. He stood up for what he believed and I respect that about him.
