Dameyune Craig played the game of his life. Other than the final score, it was a great game

The guy was unstoppable. how the hell did we lose that Auburn Game?

Wasn't it 3rd and 2...and all we needed was a first to ice the game? Collins hadn't been stopped all night, but Dinardo decides to throw the ball on 3rd down. We then had to punt and the rest is history.

I remember a stat after 4 games he was leading the nation in rushing

in 1997, Cecil led the SEC and NCAA with 8.3 ypc, 2nd place was 7.5 ... nearly a full yd more. Again, we only have a small sample size of 72 attempts (596 yds) in 3+ games.

I was friends with the Leesville stadium announcer and acquired a copy of Cecil's Sr. year highlight recruiting tape. Looked like a video collage of Tony Dorsett, Emmitt Smith, Barry Sanders, Bo, and Hershel Walker. It was TECMO bowl on steroids - absolutely sick.

3rd and 2 at the AUB47 was earlier in the 4Q with 11 min remaining. Collins & Mealey were running the balling for 7-8 ypc. 3rd and 2, Morris Watts (OC) calls a pass play to Larry Foster - incomplete. Kessler punted in threw the endzone for a touchback.

3rd and 5 at the LSU36 with 3:20 remaining was the head scratcher. Herb Tyler rush for 3 yards to the LSU39, out-of-bounds. Clock stopped, Kessler again punted it into the endzone for a touchback. 3:13 remaining and the rest is history.

I often wonder why Cecil gets so much love.
Yet, Simmons gets so much hate.
It gives a good picture of society I suppose.

Guice/Fournette played full collegiate careers and had a couple games comparable to Collins

Why should Collins get excused for that?

Not claiming he should be excused -- I don't think anyone is. The narrative around him has always been what could have been...

I can't think of any player that had a similar first 3 games of a college career only to disappear.

This guys name pops up once a year and the problem for Cecil was that he was a local hero who was allowed to break rules in High School and continue to play. He was never corrected and far beyond accountability by the time he hit LSU. His legacy is not football, it is illegal activity.
