Except he wouldn’t use that speed to leave couples apartment, just stayed and got caught by a fat white police officer. I was at the Vandy game where he broke his leg, it’s a shame he was Earl Campbell at LSU the world was his oyster. He led the SEC in rushing 6 games into the season and HAD ONLY played 3 games smh

Our D completely collapsed to the point where they had nothing in the tank at games end.

Yes all that may be true but he was one hell of a running back!! Kevin Faulk, Cecil collins and Rondell Mealey all on the same team. Wow

I watched him in all games live except that auburn game.

He was a freak. Kinda like a Barry sanders but maybe more powerful.

I talked to people who knew him jn high school and they thought he was coddled so much in high school that it messed him up. He didn’t have to study or do any real work. His emotional intelligence was like a 10 year old.
He wasn’t very smart either.

To this day though, I haven’t seen a better combo of speed, agility, and power on the college level running back and I’ve seen a lot.

because Carl Reese shite in the bed with stupid defensive play calling on AUB last drive.

LSU was up 28-24 with 2:46 left in the game. AUB drove 80 yds in 10 plays and scored the winning TD with :30 remaining. On the game winning drive, AUB had pass completions of 21, 14, 18, 10, yds compounded with an LSU PI that set up AUB at the LSU16.

net yds. rushing - LSU 377 yds vs. AUB 65 yds
D. Craig was sacked 5x's yet went 23 of 45 for 342 yds and 2TD's
H. Tyler was 6 of 15 for 121 yds and 1TD. Tyler threw a crucial INT that led to 7 AUB pts.

That game was such a letdown and sucked balls. Final play, Wade Richey attempted a 64 yd FG that was blocked as time ran out. 31-28 AUB

Herb played poorly but that game was on the coaches. Watts was throwing the ball every down to start even though it was obvious Herb was shaky. Faulk was supposed to be back and was jumping around pre game then the decision was made not to play him so we went with Mealey for about 3-4 series before Cecil even got in there. Then there were the multiple idiotic 3rd down calls at the start and end of the game. If you start Cecil like you should’ve and just called a practical game we win that one and win the west as well.

you don't know BO !
Collins was easily comparable to Bo Jackson in college although we only have a small sample size of 3.5 games.

couldn't find a gif from Bo at AUB as Collins ran very similar

My HS coach ended up at ASH coaching Craig Nall and coached against Cecil. He told me Cecil was the best HS player he’d ever seen. For a guy who weighed 205lbs you’d swear he was a 225lb back he was so powerful. I think you’re right about him being spoiled, didn’t his grandmother hit multiple big lottery tickets while he was in HS?

I saw Collins play, and I think a lot of people have turned him into more fairytale as the years go on. Collins shredded Miss State and Auburn. Impressive what he did, but Fournette had a lot of games like those in college. He was bigger, faster, and stronger than Collins. Guice, too. And that's just running backs at LSU. But I guess it's easier to hypothesize what he could have been since we only saw him play 4 games in college.

Problem with your comparison, not that it is necessarily wrong, is Guice/Fournette played full collegiate careers and had a couple games comparable to Collins. They also played on much better teams.

He is definitively a finalist for the "Shoulda, Coulda, Mighta" Trophy. A talent that still had more years of use before he set it aside.

Everyone forgets to mention he was running behind the GOAT Alan Faneca.

I think Collins was shiftier than Fournette though. Bo Jackson is a pretty good comparison imo. Powerful AND quick AND fast.

I remember a stat after 4 games he was leading the nation in rushing, even though he had only played in 3 games. And that was when MSU and Auburn and even Vandy had pretty stout defenses. He might have been made somewhat better in people's minds but the stats and video dont lie. He was an incredible talent.

This is Collins' entire career:

Miss State: 22 for 172 and 0 TDs
Auburn: 27 for 232 and 2 TDs
Akron: 20 for 175 and 1 TD
Vandy: 3 for 13 (got hurt)

Fournette had the following 170+ yard games:

2015
Auburn 228
Syracuse 244
Eastern Mich 233
Florida 180
Texas Tech 212

2016
Ole Miss 284

Derrius Guice had the following 170+ yard games:

2016
Arkansas 252
Texas A&M 285

2017
Ole Miss 276

Fournette and Guice both broke Collins' 232 mark against Auburn 3 times and also had many more 100+ and 150+ yard games here that aren't even being discussed. No one else in SEC history has as many 250+ yard games as Guice.
