well for starters, Wisconsin doesn’t have a baseball team.

The SEC now is a juggernaut. You don't have to do anything in the non-con except to get ready for SEC play. That's where you get post-season positioning. There is nothing on the west coast anymore anyway.

I think it’s very fair for locals going to games to criticize it some years when it’s all garbage teams.

If LSU was the outlier and the majority of the top-tier SEC teams were playing P4 teams, sure.

In reality, all those teams are going out of their way to play a series with a "good" team or traveling for a round robin one weekend out of pre-con slate. The rest is filled with northern teams coming down for series to avoid indoor practices, with in-state mid-week games.

My schedule complaints are playing Southern and Grambling and NOT playing an early season tournament in TX.

Whether it's Frisco, Round Rock, or Daikin, we flock to see us play.

I actually like the fact that LSU "spreads the wealth" with all the in-state schools though.

And if we didn't play Southern, we'd probably be the only team in D1 that doesn't play a midweek game with a D1 school in the same metro.

Even if we play almost nobody OOC, which thr OOC next season is actually better than recent years I'd argue; with our SEC schedule we will have a top 20 SOS in the country still.

We play so many great SEC teams throughout the season everyone's SOS in the SEC ends up extremely high. This isn't 1980s or 1990s SEC any more. It's a total powerhouse of a conference almost top to bottom even more so than football that no other conference even comes that close frankly.

16-14 in the SEC gets you into the tournament. Pre-conference schedule doesn’t matter, plus the in state teams we play in midweek are usually pretty good teams (ULL, La Tech, Southeastern, UNO and Nicholls sometimes). Part of the weaker early season schedule is that we don’t want to schedule a bunch of really good teams, but also a bunch of them don’t want to schedule us.

CJJ told a story last year about how whoever was originally scheduled for opening weekend backed out after their new coach was hired. Said the coach called Jay and told him they weren’t coming anymore because he wasn’t going to start his first season off with a losing record, and Purdue Fort Wayne was willing to be our opening weekend opponent on short notice before schedules were released.

We also get at least one tournament against other P4 conference teams in which helps test us.

LSU dropped a game to Omaha last year. Not "in Omaha", to Omaha.

We’ll just disagree on this. I think the paying customers can complain about shitty non conference home games from time to time, regardless of what other teams are doing.

But when it comes to pre-con scheduling, the paying customer at-large doesn't really know who is and isn't shitty.

Like outside of the LSU fans who are also college baseball diehards (which is a very small portion of the fanbase), scheduling Sacramento State is basically the same as scheduling Purdue Ft. Wayne.

The OP's complaint is rooted in not recognizing the team's LSU is playing. Which I'm sure is the case for many. It's why this thread was created with the thought that our pre-con schedule was "bad" because he sees Sacramento St. and says "that's an FCS school in football, they must be shite in baseball too"

I think some have missed my point. I never said there weren’t guys in the major leagues from small schools. I also never said we should not play easy teams in the beginning of the season.

I’m just wondering why Sac State and Milwaukee over, say, Arkansas State and North Texas?

We need as many home games as possible, financially.

LSU Baseball gets further and further in the RED each year.

Are you intentionally asking us to play schools with no baseball teams or are you just that ignorant?

Are you trolling?

This is the second time you've listed a program that doesn't have a baseball team.

In the 90s, LSU and the SEC did not have the gravitas it now has in baseball. As such, there was a need to play better teams to increase your chances of getting a bid if you did not win your conference tournament. Now, being LSU baseball and playing in the SEC does not necessitate playing a tough OOC schedule.

Respect your opinion, but it is not upon us to prop-up the other state schools. Regarding the shared metro angle, we don't have to take our cues from other schools? Whether they do or don't, we need to do what benefits us the most. Just my view.
