Call two or three designed runs for Sam in the first couple of drives.

He wants to run. Let him run. I think getting tackled a few times might settle him down and help him get into a better rhythm in the passing game.
Like my toddler. Just have to let him run some of that energy out.

He runs because his instinct is to run when the pass rushers are coming.

I understand that theory.
Although, I would bet dollars to donuts, almost every team will be stacking the box against us going forward.
A quick 3&out on the first drive could kill your morale in a big game.
I rather run quick slants, bubble screens, and other flat routes early to get him in rhythm and try to beat selling out stopping Leavitt and Jones.

After watching eye in the sky with Flynn and Hester I just hope we run more RPOs and tell leavitt to hand it every time. Would have prob won the game bc we would have had some big run plays in 1st quarter.

Either this or put his receivers on stilts so his throws are on target. Start lowering the receivers down as the game goes on.

So would hitting some short passes. So would some handoffs to Jones for 6 or 7 yards keeping us ahead of the chains. We can do all of those on the 1st drive, provided we finally get a 1st down or 2. Going 3 and out on our 1st drive all 3 games has hurt Sam as much as anything. (Of course, he’s part of the reason we’ve gone 3 and out). It’s not the play calls early necessarily, it’s been the execution.

I bet Lane told him to stop being selfish by trying to win all by himself and pass the ball to the open receivers.

Agree. Now we need to go back and watch Chambliss against us last week. He unloaded that ball in less than 2 seconds many times negating the rush.
Kiffin made a comment regarding last week that we(Leavitt) kept getting off script of the gameplan to run defenders sideline to sideline and wear them down. We will see if the message is received.

Agreed and also he needs to learn if the doesn't see green in front of him to keep reading the defense. There were several times he gave the read a half second and immediately looked to run even though there was no pressure on him and no where to run. It also seemed like a few of their play calls were for long developing plays and he just doesn't have the patience or the trust to hang in there for that long. They need to have a safety valve especially if all the other routes take a while to pay off.

Better yet.
Since all defenses expect him to panic and run. Design a run fake to lure the defense up and throw it over their heads. Cam did this all the time at auburn. Snap, duck head to look like run, safeties bite, throw over the top.

Need to get some rub routes early or some route trees that pull open a TE or WR wide open for an easy obvious read & target.

Burrow said the same thing in is first year at lsu. After he got hit one time he was ready to roll.

Historically Lane's offense were predicated on getting the ball out fast. Sam needs to understand this and just execute the proven offensive plan they have in place. This is from a passing perspective but Lanes offensive also needs to establish the run.
