re: Brian Kelly talks about why he called out Kayshon Boutte in the media earlier this year

I think ur take is the right approach
Team is an overrated concept to kids now
We get old and we holler at kids to get off the lawn, and we remember what things used to be like, and those memories are fond
Then we die. LOL

what the frick are some of y’all smoking? a cancer? for maybe not wanting to stay on a sub .500 team when other schools are offering 6 figured to leave for his money year after the old staff he committed to gets basically completely wiped out? some of y’all are ridiculous
Lol.

He hasn’t seemed engaged with the team much period. When interviewed by Jordy before the bowl game he had no clue Kirklin was practicing at QB. Maybe I’m wrong but he doesn’t strike me as a good team player.
I think the level of toxicity within that locker room under O will never be truly realized. I cannot fault a kid for going through the adversity he did while being in that environment. That’s ripe for someone like Saban to come in and paint the picture of a better place. Kelly has a ton of work to do, but I think even he was shocked at how undisciplined the locker room was and he was using ever tool in the toolbox just to be able to field a competitive team next year.
I think he is on the road to building the program he wants to have and it appears Boutte is on board with this new staff. Let’s let it play out.

He was on top of the world, projected to be a top draft pick. Then he got ankle surgery. Then he had a second ankle surgery. I can forgive him for being distracted and taking some time to work things out on his own.
Jaylen Waddle shattered his ankle early in 2020. Not only did he remain engaged with his team, he did everything he could to play and hobbled on the field in the national title game. Boutte just courted himself to Alabama until he got an NIL deal. He’s never given the impression he’s a team player. Very talented, absolutely

A coach that has a plan on what to say to the media and when to say it. How refreshing.

I also think there were at least a couple of other schools in his ear trying to convince him to enter the portal.

If not for Gordon McKernan stepping in, he'd be wearing Crimson right now. I don't expect much from him this season tbh.
I agree about the Crimson part (which is sad for a guy from Louisiana). But I think he will put up big numbers as long as he is recovered ok from his injury. He is an elite WR and he wants to be a 1st rounder. He knows it's important that he has a big year showing that he is healthy and ready to play in the NFL. And LSU will have a new OC that should know how to use him.

He was going to Bama, that is a fact.
Could someone point me in the right direction to find these facts?
I don’t really want to provide any sort of argument from a position of ignorance.

He was more than "distracted". And there are plenty of examples of true team players getting injured and still being engaged with the team while rehabbing. Adam Miller is an example.
Andre Anthony is another example.
Would O have called out Boutte? I don't think so.

If you don't want to be here, just go. Never expected it to come from this kid. Didn't come off like that in high school or as a freshman. It's sad how LSU can't have a multi year star ever. Whether it's injury, opting out, or becoming a star by year 3 and leaving early.
I haven't mentioned him in months. I don't even think about him when I discuss the receivers. A guy like him playing around and coming off an ankle injury could easily screw around enough to play second fiddle to guys like Bech and Nabors. LSU has an elite group of receivers without him.

This is how you bring out the leaders in the locker room. It’s an area Les Miles was always good in.
And if it doesn’t bring out the leader within, it will weed out the selfish players.
Ed had a hard time in this area. You can’t be friends with players and expect them to respect you when you have to lay the law down.

Lol. So you’re basically admitting he was not a team player and was worried about me me me.

He was a 18-20 year old with poor leadership and poor mentorship. You wanna throw out every 18-20 year old who makes a couple mistakes to the trash?

I'll tell you this. In the real world you evaluate being part of a company / team in balance with what that is bringing back to you in development / compensation. That isn't being selfish, it is being practical.

I get what Kelly was trying to accomplish here, but I really don’t think the best way to build a relationship with a 20 year old injured player is to call them out publicly via the scumbag media.

Why is it smart to put a name on it now?
Because the player responded well and it's probably the best player on the team. Other players will see it as an example and follow Boutte's lead.

You betcha.

He’s not playing this year. Let’s move on!

Why would he not be playing this year?
Posted on 5/7/22 at 3:06 pm to TigerLunatik
Kelly’s approach is transparency. Putting a name to it now let’s Boutte see that he prioritized Boutte and that his coach IS very deliberate, but also has the kid’s best interest at heart.
