Sounds like he’s already hedging his bets on how good this team can be. LSU is good enough to compete but not good enough to win a NC. I’m happy we’ll be improved but how long will it take to get to a NC caliber roster?

This is a retarded point.

I think it's time to be brutally honest and that CBK has been afforded every opportunity to be successful. If he can't do it with this roster, coaching budget, facilities, talent rich state, then he can't do it.

What is the IT that he cannot do. And who can.

Okay, so we should just play it safe, hire someone proven to be good, but not great? Look east a little; that’s not what Bama does. They swing for the fences. If they get one that doesn’t work out they fire him quickly and swing for the fences again.

Sounds like he is confident in our talent, realizes we are not significantly better than top teams yet, and he realizes guaranteeing victories is futile.

O coming in after BK after the talent is high isn't a terrible idea. It's basically like Gruden coming in after Dungy to give the Bucs the energy / aggression they needed to win a super bowl.

Yep, and they will keep trying if this guy doesn’t work out. Eventually, they will hit again, and a lot sooner than the schools that have patience with good but not great.

What are you even saying? No one is saying you don't hire the "great coach" and settle for a good coach. But there is not or was not a "Next Great Coach" out there.

There will be a time in the future when the athletic department and Scott Woodward have to hire a Head Football Coach and they will do their research and try to hire the next great Coach at LSU to lead the program to many football Championships but those Coaches do not grow on trees.

If they don’t, it will be because of coaching and/or pivotal injuries.
id also add bad fortune in general. Winning an NC requires luck as much as talent and good coaching. Expecting BK to win and NC or else every year, or any year really, is not at all realistic. However we should expect to make the playoffs most years and compete for an SEC title every year.

Yes there was a next great coach out there. In 10 years we will look back and easily name him. Mark Emmertt named him ahead of time. I’m telling you that that was no accident. A good AD, who understands people, can sift through the hundred or so young coaches and figure out who the next great one will be. I’m not saying he’ll have a 100% hit rate, but he can have a 50% hit rate if he’s good.

An example: When Saban had it going a lot of people were scanning his coaching staff for possible great ones. It makes sense since these guys had the benefit of seeing how a great one operated. Now, I don’t blame FSU for hiring Jimbo; he looked the part and probably interviewed very well. But the Shark fricker? I can’t even remember his name, but every time I heard him talk I thought, “This guy is a mouth breather.” But Florida picked him over Kirby Smart, who is a very impressive man even if you didn’t know he accomplished so much.

What I’m telling you is that a lot of the decision makers at major universities are flat out morons. The first steps toward greatness is getting the decision making out of the hands of morons and into the hands of someone like Mark Emmertt. He’s not a unicorn.

Wrong. LSU’s recruiting class in 2024 was ranked 7th in the nation. 2023 was 5/6 in the nation.

Like I said, recruiting was never a problem.
