This is the current landscape in college sports. Everyone is a year-to-year hired mercenary.

Yeah - I regret it - just cannot enjoy the game the way I did back in the 50s.

Yeah - I know - it's a far more complex game today - but I woundn't sit up late at night and diagram their plays while I listen to them on the radio.

This has to be Neal’s decision and the only thing I can think is that he believes he can play every day at another school. Jay obviously loves this kid and gave him tons of chances to prove himself over the last year.

He must have been told that the position was wide open for competition this fall but found a guaranteed spot somewhere else. Jay was really high on him and I still think in Jay’s mind it would be Neal’s spot to lose this fall if he came back.

To me, so disappointing to see what has happened to college baseball... loyalty and commitment is gone.

Im not saying this is always the case but look at the majority of the ones we have lost to the portal so far. Dutton, Johnson, Neal, Moffet, Kling, Roellig, Bronzini, Mitchell, Bucknam and Coleman are from out of state.
LSU is a nationwide brand so we will go all over to get talent but those kids are the first ones to leave if things arent going their way, whereas i feel homegrown kids may be more willing to stick it out.

So about 8 arms. The rest are pretty replaceable.

I've heard Jay say several times that he is looking for 11 positional players and 8 good arms.

Jay knows with the right 11 or so competing for fielding positions and 8 good arms thats all he needs to make it to Omaha.

We lost postional players who were struggling and deep depth pitchers that aren't ready now.

I trust CJJ to find the 11 and 8 players he needs.

Exactly. Neal was promised the starting position as a freshman. No more promises by ole Jay. Neal knows as does everyone else he is not beating out Preister.

I remember Neal starting early on in 23 versus I think Kansas St? I believe he had some ABs against Iowa. He was playing a lot on a loaded team. I also remember he got injured and didn't do too well after it.

They're guys that either started the year playing a lot and were replaced or guys that played very little all year. I would go back home too if I'm not actually doing what I came to a school to do. Plenty of LA baws that migrate to lower tier schools from LSU as well.

Not true. The 2025 roster is not posted yet, as it is not set. The 2024 remains on LSUSports.net.

I agree with you but that doesn’t mean it is catastrophic by any means. Of course jay would want him as a depth piece. We just don’t have any evidence that he’s the guy that can lead you to a NC behind the plate

Not sure why so many here hate his game. Kid has been hurt. Has pop in his bat. Maybe I am looking at his potential.

Jay even played the kid in RF over much more competent outfielders. Not sure how many more chances you want to be given.

Seems like the consensus is a recruit will come in & start? We've been spoiled with our depth the past few seasons. Forgetting possible injuries, just the amount of games every week requires at least 2 SEC quality catchers. Re Leske, hope that's just a rumor. CJJ needs some stability at that position. Hurd obviously deteriorated, a major blow. Who else?

That’s likely true, but it’s also likely that he was told he wouldn’t be guaranteed to be the starter and would likely have to split time just like this season. He’s just not a good enough defensive catcher to start every game in SEC play if other options are available.

That, or he’s fishing for one. If he doesn’t get one at a big enough program, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that he comes back, but I wouldn’t put money on it.
