He's got to be the most boring hire in a long time.

The idiots with the negative comments are not LSU fans. That is all.

Too long; didn't watch. I wish Coach Mac and the Tigers the best for the upcoming season, but the guy just doesn't inspire a lot of confidence. Still feeling depressed after last year's last place finish.

Man it’s been almost 2 years. Give it a rest. Maybe go buy a cowboy hat or something. He’s not coming back.

And now we have to watch him coach a Southland team down I-10. He is by far the best basketball coach in the state of Louisiana. I'll give it a rest when Woody gets off his arse and does something to repair the program that he gutted.

Nothing about the first year gave me a good feeling about the future for LSU hoops, I certainly hope that changes, I want CMM to succeed.

Agreed. Hopefully nowhere to go but UP!

It's extremely rare for a successful coach to be fired. It almost never happens. Yet, it happened to Wade.

That's where the resentment comes from.

Usually when a coach is fired, the fans are the ones calling for his head. That was not the case here.

I get that but the wish that a coach fails is not what I consider fan behavior. Or maybe I would say the hope that he does not succeed.

And LSU has fired a successful coach in recent history, Les Miles. Now there was a lot of fan support for that firing but you cannot argue that he was a successful coach, fans just felt he should have been more successful, probably rightly so.

Hugh Freeze was as successful as any recent coach at Ole Miss but was fired for off-the-field issues, as was Wade. Both for clumsily executing something that was often done by other coaches, in the case of Wade almost universally by highly successful coaches.

But I guess each person has to determine their own fandom, I've just never been so enamored with a former coach or disenchanted with the current coach that I hope for the team to do poorly so the current coach will fail.

Neither the team, nor McMahon are going to get the benefit of the doubt going into the season. They will have to earn it

Exactly right. I hope he does. The proof will be in the pudding, the pudding being the SEC record.

But he really wasn't.

He was an up and coming coach who had a 121-36 (77%) record over the 5 seasons prior to coming to LSU.

He was, on paper, objectively a good hire.

While they have some serious cupcakes on there (Miss College for Women ) they have some teams like UAB they will likely lose to.

I truly want to buy into mens basketball but I’m just not feeling it. I can’t get excited about a coach that doesn’t promote the program or have that vibrant attitude. I know LSU will never find a coach K or Billy Donovan so it’s hard to believe we could ever string about 5 or 6 dominant tourney teams together. It’s always a let down. We are basically UGA when it comes to mens hoops.

It's pretty simple. Wade is the dad and Woodward is the mom. The Mom divorced the dad and brought in McMahon the step dad who doesn't fill the void. Wade fans are like children of divorce that resent their mom for cutting their dad out of their life.

This is a reasonable response, though I am not sure I agree 100%. It is completely understandable.

tell us what about that first year gave you a good feeling about the future. I'm open to it. although i agree with comment that nothing about the first year gave me a good feeling about the future.

I would venture to say 99% of people feel that way. If you are wanting McMahon to not do good, then you aren't a fan of LSU.
Pointing out that he hasn't done well in his very short stint thus far, and predicting that he likely won't do well in the future, is not the same as wanting him to not do well. It's called being realistic about your opinion. You can have that negative opinion, while still hoping it's 100% wrong and the team and new coach do great.
